help with issue with 5870

ok so here are my system specs.

core i7 920 3.4ghz

evga x58 classified

ati xfx 5870

corsair dominator gt 6gb 1600mhz

zalman 9700 cooler

velciraptor 300gb

500gb hd

320gb hd

thermaltake toughpower 1000w

so here is my issue i just got the xfx 5870, replacing my 3 x evga gtx 260 core 216 55nm cards. my 3d mark vantage with the 260s i got a P31230 total with gpu=27945 and cpu 48246. so now with the 5870 i did a benchmark and my scores were way lower. i got a total score of P16111 with gpu=14947 and cpu=21024. is there something wrong with this. thanks

Your results appear to be probably correct.

According to the statistics from hwbot, which includes world record setups, average setups, stock up to ln2 cooling, the 3x 260 cards u had were the equivalent of 2x 5870.

http://www.hwbot.org/benchmark.application.statistics.do?applicationId=17

(these of course are recordings whilst crippling the 260's by irrationally crippling PhysX performance, left enabled - u would get scores akin to what u used to get)

So just to get to the same level u previously had, u apparently need to buy another 5870. (by no means a suggestion)

Bad advice ftl.

Actualy I would be a little worried, on a stock 5870 I was getting over 18k in vantage everytime.

You have to remember Vantage scores will be a lot higher with an nvid card cos of physx.

3x 260's is a tasty little combo tbh, and although Im not a fan of that many cards Vantage deffo liked it.

What i would do dude is look at the FPS in games as the 5870 is very capable, if you are a proper enthusiast/point hunter then sadly another 5870 is the only way to go. But before people start saying anything that will last you aaaaaaaaaaages.

Take a look at my review there dudio

oh ok. thanks guys for responding so fast. is that why my cpu score dropped also. i noticed in the benchmark it runs smoother with a 5870 but i would more FPS with 3 260s. and in GTA4 with the 3 260s in buildings the lighting would kinda flicker and was choppy but no more with the 5870. lovin the card so far. anyone know some good clocks to overclock to on the xfx 5870 and wat would be a good program to use?

thanks

The ATi overdrive app in the driver software should push it a fair amount but if you're after a full on push-to-the-max overclock then I'm not sure which app would be best. Going back to the original topic though, I know in benchmarks one 5870 looks like a downgrade but doubt you'd notice a difference in games, as you say GTA4 actually looks better. That said, I'm sure whoever pays the 'leky bill will notice a difference at the end of the month though!

oh ok cool. thanks man. yea i think i will be fine with the one 5870. dont really need anymore than that right now but maybe later i will get another
