i got a Gainward gtx 460 gs for christmas , it said by nividia 450 watt minimum so i thought i might get away with it cause i have 450 watt that came wiht the case and i have not yet got a new power supply , i also got a noctua nh-d14, put it all in fine but noticed the power cable coming from the graphics to the supply had 2 sets of pins, and i only had 1 remaining place to plug into coming form my PSU, so is there a way around this or is it important i get a bigger PSU to run it cause wen i turned on the pc with just one set of pins plugged in it wud not bring any picture jsut said check signal on my monitor so will a 650 or maybe 750 watt be good ( just assuming a higher power one will have more connections coming out of it) new to building computers help would be much appreciated and advice on a decent PSU as i want to OC my i5-760 with the noctua nh d14, thanks in advance

Do you want modular( cables can plug OUT of psu or do you want a normal psu. And go for 750, more future proof than 650. If you chose modular, get a corsair ax750W, if you go with normal get a corsair tx750W.

They are both very good psu's.

i think i just want a normal one cause i need to plug in not out, so thanks il see when i can get a 750w one and just use my old card for now.

What brand PSU is it ?

and usually the GPU has a molex convertor in the package.. see image below ,

You can also buy those as a single item...

Just wondering KaiKai so your PSU has one 6 pin going to your graphics card right now? Do you have any spare molex plugs? Because if you do I guess you could try to use those 2-molex to 6-pin adapters to try out if it will work fine. However upgrading your PSU is a good long term idea. Both PSUs recommended by BladeTitan are very good PSUs. What are your other system specs? If you tell us those we may be able to tell you what wattage power supply you need.

EDIT: Well Snw was just a sec quicker than me.

yes that picture u posted is that i got,altho after plugging it into the graphics card there was only room for one of the other things, i mean i could only plug on of those into the PSu, and nothing wud come up on screeen so figured they both needed to be connected, hmm im not 100 percent the brand i never took it out or remember the name but it came in an evo labs case or something not a very good case got it in my local store cause i was stuck had a dell pc before so couldnt update somethings without modding the case a bit, but my specs are

CPU = i5 760 stock speed right now

Cooling = Noctua nh d14 installed today

Mobo= Asus P7P55-M

RAM Corsair XMS 3 DDR3 2 x 4gb 2000mhz

hoping to learn to overclock on this too or maybe get help from a friend to get it as high as i can,

just to be clear so u understand me cause i might not make sense sometimes but the black part of that cable plugs into the graphics but only one of the white can go into the psu cause i have the other ones used up by power buttons or something so one white plug is left unconnected,

I would get a new PSU if its a non brand one,

but if you want to try it anyway,

But as i said, it would be much better if you Upgrade the PSU...
