Help with graphics cards

Hi there

I Have an Nvidia 8400 GS graphics card, but my computer has a spare slot which i could put another card into. I know the motherboard isnt SLI compatible, but i was wondering if i could put another graphics card in, and use that to run Windows Vista on, leaving more graphics memory free on the 8400 GS for gaming.

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

i think i would use the new card for gaming, sorry to say this but you cant get miuch worse for gaming.

What sort of budget do you have for a new card?

whats your motherboard?

Well right now, im just thinking of putting an old card in until i get something better, i was just wondering if it would work. The 8400gs isnt good, but the fact that windows vista uses up so much of the systems resources doesnt help. I was thinking of putting in my Nvidia geforce fx 5200. an old card, i know, but i was just wondering if i could make vista just use that card, then i could run games on the 8400.

Im not sure of the motherboard, but i know it has room for the other card, and that it doesnt support SLI, but i was just wondering if my idea could work?

Thanks for the help =]

fair enough. well i'll find one with the same slot then. we have a few different graphics cards lying around, hopefully ill have some luck.

Hows the 8800gtx, by the way? im thinking of saving up for one, just wondering what its like?

cheers.

awesome, well worth the money, would recomend to anyone :)

erm, well it wont make a difference, 2 cards wont improve performance.

The two card thing wont work i dont think im afraid. However how about just buying yourself a cheap 8600GT or ATI 3850? You'll notice a huge improvement over your 8400.

If you can stretch your budget ide say the 8800GT would be your best bet or the ATI 3870.

Besides, the operating system wont limit your GPU it has very little to do with the operating system working. It wont make games run better the only things itll cap are you ram and CPU, not the GPU ram.

If you want to game decently quite simply as said you will need a new GPU.. 8600GT or 8800GT 256mb if you have quite a bit of spare cash lying about.

(3850 is also an ok option i just dont like ati much :) )
