first let me show you what i just got

ok so what i want to do is put 2 of the 3mm LEDs in my raystorm block and then i want to use 2 red(or white, w/e looks better) in the dual bay res to make it glow in the front of the case.

so what i want to ask is how do i make this work without blowing anything up

i was thinking just to connect the leds with the wire to a molex, but what i'm not sure about is which of the molex plugs i would need to use, or if i needed to get resistors or what?

thanks in advance

EDIT:

so far i have found a little bit of info on the net, and i put two leds in series and tried to connect them using molex at 5V, 7V and 12V (i used the yellow, since i don't care about frying those) but it was weird because at 5v the light was orange-ish and 7v was about the same but 12v they were almost red.... think it tooo much from them, so i then tried with 3 leds in series, i added a green and at 5v they don't light up and at 7v they do.

the problem is that i don't know what volts the leds are... the package doesn't say

but based on the experimentation and looking at similar products they should be at around 2.2volts each, but this is just a rough estimation.

If anyone has more experience with these things i'd appreciate the help

If all you do is connect them up, you will probably blow the LEDs out fairly soon. You can run them in series, just be sure to add a resistor before the first LED. In your case, using the 12V supply, you want a 390 ohm resistor for 2 LEDs and a 270 ohm resistor for 3. Run it like so..

Amazing, I'm gonna have to see what resistors I can get a hold of (the shop near me is .... Kinda limited)

If not I'll just have to wait till this other stores gets some premade ones in stock

Thanks for the reply

have you tried ebay or if not you can get LEDs from ebay that could with resistors for little money. just look for 12v ones so you get the right resistors.

just having a quick look on ebay searching for 12v leds i found 20 pre wired red leds for $5.29 inc shipping

check at automotive stores, they usally have high brightness LED's in 4 packs with resitors for 12 volt use.

Or run them all in parallel and therefore the same voltage across each of the LEDs, resulting in them all being the same brightness.

Also make sure the LEDs can handle 12V first, not all can. Knowing the amount of current that the LEDs can handle would also prove useful.

i should close this thread :S lol i gave on making them myself as there is no info about them and i don't want to buy a bunch of resistors and try them all out. i did it just for fun (but sadly the 12 volt didn't work, and what ever these dum LEDs are, they not divisible by 5v, 7v, 12v so theres no 'easy' way of doing it.

i can live with out them, and if i do want to get some proper ones i'll buy them premade (they like 5 bucks for two.... probably will come to the same or cheaper then doing it ur self, as i was saying it was for just to try it out for fun)
