Help me Overclock my CPU to 4.2GHz please

Hi TTL and anybody else that reads! I been watching TTL's video on utube on the Corsair H100 review and I noticed TTL used an Intel i7 950 and clocked it up nice and stable to 4.2GHz cooling it with the H100 with a good amount of cooling. I have a Corsair H100 and coincidently an i7 950 on an Asus P6X58D-E and I’d like to know what setting I should do in the bios to achieve this stable overclock? Also, should I disable software on my machine like the Asus EPU-6 in order for overclocking to work effectively?

Thanks,

Pitch

I'll +1 this .. Would be nice to have some screenies of the bios when seeing these overclock's..

You cant just copy stuff TTL did and expect it to work stable! Like he says in 99% of his videos, EVERY chip is different and overclocks differently! So you just gotta find your own settings for it. Don't think you're gonna get it stable in 5min. It takes time for you to know you CPU or GPU so work on it and find the best settings (lowest volts and temps for 4.2GHz) And remove ALL the ASUS junk! You'll need CPU-Z and some temp monitoring program like HWmonitor or AIDA64 and don't forget about Prime95 for stress testing!

+ You could search the forum for 1366 overclocking guide or just google it so you get the idea what you're doing!

Good Luck!

Very True, But alot of people people just say 4.5ghz@1.4v stable and im like well how the fuccles did you do that.. Would be nice to see some more settings like pll ram timings etc ....

Saying that though there is lots of overclocking info for specific motherboards in this forum...

again man, pll is chip dependent and ram timings depends upon your sticks.

there are guides for overclocking in other sections of these forums if you go down the boards a little and whle they might not give you accurate numbers for your setup they will teach you the theory and give you a ballpark to start with.

people think oc is a science, its far from it and is much more of a dark art like cooking.

i have seen woman cook many a samich but everytime i try i mess up and cut off a finger or something

Sadly boys if you want the settings for an easy ride youve come to the wrong place.

This forum is about teaching YOU how to do it yourself.

Because when (and it will) go wrong youll know how to fix it.

Im the parent that teaches you how to use the tools, not does it all for you........

What frenquency are you at now? what frenquency does it get unstable at? How are you determining it is unstable??

these are the question you should be asking yourself!

Right, thanks for all the replies guys. I've since changed things up a little on the cooling front... now gone with a complete custom loop, worked out where i was going wrong in the bios and did a bit of tweeking... suffice to say i am now a hair over 4.5GHz and stable with enough cooling without the noise i would've had from the H100. Woot!

you could have just changed the fans and had the same temps

with less noise

chucking money at a problem that was as said in the H100 review JUST the fans....
