Help me choose a new TV

I'm normally pretty good at this stuff - choosing tech. I go through the various reviews & specs & normally end up with a clear winner. But choosing a TV has got me beat. I'll give you a spec list of what I want & hopefully you can help me out.

Price - Under £700
Size - 43" (Its for the kitchen & we'll be sitting about 85 inches away from it)
Smart - Yes
Catchup TV - Must be available now, not a future update.
4K - Yes (I want to future proof as much as possible)
Main Use - Watching Freeview/Freeview HD, streaming movies from my home server, possibly hook it up to an htpc for some light gaming??

I've been researching for days & still can't find a clear winner, most reviews seem somewhat mixed or updates are coming. I don't want to be factory resetting it every other day. I'd much appreciate it if you could share some insights & hopefully I'll be sitting in front of it on Christmas day. Thanks.

4K upscalling can look terrible on terrestrial TV matey. Its the one thing that has made my upgrade path difficult.

Im genuinely looking at a 1080P OLED atm

Yep, the last thing I want is to be watching what looks like an old VHS tape on a lovely brand new 4K TV.

They can look terrible when not fed with a 4K or even a 1080 signal dude

I spent a couple hours in John Lewis looking at this exact thing, I went in wanting to buy a Samsung and left wanting a Sony Android TV

I've looked at the Sony Android TV, the model I was looking at was the "Sony KD-43X8305C".

The reviews say that the picture is stunning & YouView looks great too, but the amount of negative reviews it gets because of the flaky OS really puts me off...

I have the Samsung 9000 series 4k and it is quite good even with terrestrial, just be careful of OLED Tom as a mate of mine is a TV salesman and he showed me on the LG how the screen had burnt in and it wasn't pretty

All the samsung 4K's I looked at (up to £1500) ghosted pretty badly and my current Samsung actually has a better picture quality

From some one with a 65" 4k TV? don't bother. Hardly anything (if anything) is broadcast at 4k and it's not even any good as a computer screen.

Installing Kodi or Plex directly on the TV appeals to me.

@AlenALX - Have you tried Netflix or Amazon?

The day after I download plex I sold my very last HTPC for £700.

Never looked back.

Ive now got access via my laptop or mobile where ever I am and the GF has plex on her TV thats linked to my server remotely.

The only advantage that the htpc seems to have is the recordedtv. I have a hdhomerun on the network that the WMC uses. I know you can set that up through Plex but don't think you can record tv.

Not yet no. Do they run at 4k then? it wouldn't be too hard, I would just have to basically unplug my Fire HD box and put it into the 4k port which tbh? I haven't even used yet. IIRC the 4k port may not even work, must get that investigated.

I've just had a look at the now TV boxes but they don't seem to have the facility to record.

There are so many propositions out there that it just becomes confusing. I'm no closer to deciding on a TV....

I'm with Tom on an OLED 1080p TV, I regularly visit the top floor of John Lewis to rub myself all over a 55" LG curved OLED TV until the staff force me to the floor.
