ok,

i have a sony vaoi rb50 stock which i bought about 3 years ago.

i need to know what kind of ram i can put into it.

i also need to know some other specs of it or whether i should get anew computer or keep the one i have.

right now im on 512 ddr ram i think it's 400mhz pc3200.

can this computer hold ddr2?

or not?

umm, the computer's chipset is Intel 915 G; the processor is intel pentium 4 HT 3.2 GHz

i'd also want to know how much memory i can put in each of the 4 slots the motherboard has.

i know it has a max of 2gb hadling; can it be setup two sticks of 1gb or 4x512?

Right,

It seems you know quite a bit about the specs of your comp.

What else did you want to know?

I'm pretty certain it won't take DDR2.

With a 2GB limit, you can ether have 4x512 or 2x1gb.

I think it's much of a muchness to say which is better.

What do you want to use the comp for?

To see a real leap in performance, you'd need to upgrade the CPU.

kthx for the prog.

umm, should the mobo be upgraded?

cuz i know theres a real big diff b/w ddr and ddr2 right?

and wat processor is real good?

... thats not too pricey. lol

also, since i dont know about ram; wat is better 2x1gig or 4x512?

ok, according to cpu-z:

intel pentium 4 640 90nm[idk wat that means; explain?]

ddr 200 mhz

board is intel d915gro/ chipset 915g express

Your rig runs PC3200 (DDR). I would reccomend you to upgrade the lot, CPU, mobo, RAM and everything else. :P But it really depends on what you are using the PC for. If it's the newest games you want to run, then you're better off building a brand new. And to your question as for what's best, 4x512 or 2x1GB, it's 2x1GB, as it gives you the opportunity to upgrade in the future. ;)

lol, i thought so.

i'd been thinking to build a computer but wanted to stall it and see if i could just upgrade the old one.

thx guys.

95nm means the fabrication process. :) Current CPU's is made with the 65nm technology, and the latest is made using 45nm. :) You're mobo uses the LGA775-socket, which means you could probably run a newer CPU, as long as it's supported. Try searching around a bit on the net on you'r mobo and you'll probably sonn enough find out what it supports, though I don't think it'll take a Core 2-CPU.

Hehe, I know what you mean, I ran an old Socket 478 Pentium 4-CPU for the last 4 years or so, and I really wanted a new PC, but never had the money for it. So at last I just said "to heck with it" and ordered a completely new rig, giving my creditcard a boost in the wrong direction. :P Safe to speak, I haven't regret it yet. ;)

yea i looked around for my mobo specs.

and no, it doesnt support C2D.

oh well.

ill start my project to build a new rig later when i have the time.

=]

Good luck with that, and post the updates when you've found the components you like. :) I guess there will be more than one here happy to assist and comment on it. ;)
