:HELP: GTX 460 Problem

This will sound odd at first but bare with me.

I have sensitive hearing (not good hearing like hearing whispers) I can hear high pitched noises other people can't wasn't till recently I found thins out by some one telling me I am not meant to be able to hear a dog whistle, Here I was all along thinking every on did.

Printers and CRT's make the most high pitched noises and some LCD's when displaying all black do it to. Rear projections TV's are the worst ever.

Any ways to my issue.

Ok I don't know how common this issue would be as it would be limited to a small number of people who could hear it.

I have a ASUS ENGTX460 DirectCU/2DI/1GD5 I just got the other day and when under load it makes a high pitched sequel noise, Mainly when running F@H When I turn the GPU usage percentage down it turns into a pulsating squeal not continuous, It dose not do it when running games and benchmarks tho.

At first I thought because I was only running a 650W PSU and a over clocked i7 870 and a ASUS DK 9800GTX+ as Physx it might be low on power so i removed my 9800GTX+ and put my CPU to stock, turnt off the CPU folding and only ran the GPU folding and still the same issue.

Its not a heat issue as my card is not over clocked (besides the factory over clock) and it one of the coolest running video cards I have ever had.

My next step is to RMA the video card but explaining my situation to some one testing the card and not being able to hear the noise might prove to be a little tricky.

Any one have any ideas about what might be the cause?

I can hear older TVs squealing as well as some hardware sometimes. I can't hear dog whistles though,

Unfortunately, even if you RMA the card, the new one will probably do it as well. This is pretty common with electronics. It could also be a cap going bad that is causing the squealing. I'd try an RMA and cross your fingers. If the new card does the same thing, time to get louder fans

the whining u hear is the capacitors/choke mate ive had an MSI 460 card do that b4 and i RMA'd it

but as far as im aware most cards will do it when there running fah cause it really hammers ur gpu

I might wait a while and then RMA it see if they have a new batch in to try avoid getting a card with he same thing again.

like we have said mate its prob gonna happen on most cards, even the msi cyclone with its military class bit and pieces they still whine

I guess I wont GPU fold while I am in the same room as my PC then

Might Oc it see what it dose. might go so high pitched I dont hear it.

i have used the gainward 1gb ai RMA'd it for coil whine but not just that the card was idlin quite warm

i now have the asus directCU and that coil whines aswell when foldin but temps are fine

its hit n miss mate
