Help! Dead Mobo?

Ok guys, 30 mins ago I was running OCCT + Kumbustor to make sure my rig was rock solid with the GPU @900Mhz...
Suddenly, the fan LEDS Turned off, then a sizzle sound occurred, followed by a high pitch "crack "or "bang", and then the rig shut down.
I panicked and switched the power off at the wall, then broke open my rig to inspect any damage, but I couldn't see any...

WTF Happened, and is it safe to turn the rig back on?

"popped a CAP"..
sounds like a capacitor popped or broke.
i'd let it cool and re-power to find out the damages..
aircooled or watercooled?

Mentally beating myself up now for buying a shitty PSU x.x
a Mobo can't run with a blown cap can it?
Funds are very low right now...

no power, no PC...
i'd remove the PSU, smell deeply in the fan area for a big burning smell and you've
prolly found the culprit.

UPDATE :

I Used my bro's PSU to try and power my rig to see weather my PSU's dead, but the exact same this g happened : press power button, nothing. Press internal power button, nothing. Seriously, did I jus manage to somehow kill my mobo..?

eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww!

re-verify 24-pin and 4/8-pin mobo power and and if still no-joy. start examining
the motherboard for a popped capacitor or choke.. usually along the 24-pin edge,
CPU socket or phase power area. look for scorching or burnt traces and electronics.
both on front and back of the motherboard.

gawd, too bad - sorry to hear

Alright, On first look I can't see any popped, so Ima break out the screwdrivers and music and see if I can find any hiding...

Question : If a cap pops and I get my uncle (technician) to solder on a new one, will the rig work..? Or could the little thing have taken something else down with it..?

sorry to hear...
a voltmeter is a good idea...
short out pins 14 and 15 (green and black) of your psu and check the voltages on the board

No need, I've figured out the problem...
This is probably as stupid as it gets (and it's quite the story)...

I decided to swap out parts with my bro's rig, in order to find out what needed replacing...
I started with the PSU, Since I wanted to make 100% sure it was dead. I connected it up with my bro's rig, no go.
Ok I think, PSU's dead.
Mobo next, so I hook my bro's PSU Into my rig, no go.
ok, Mobo died too (I'm having a breakdown at this point, shit's getting expensive)
I decided to come back on here to ask a few more questions, so I hook my bro's PSU Back into his rig, no go.
Now I'm worried I Somehow killed my bro's rig too, I debate on suicide.
I take his rig downstairs and hook it up, so it looks like I never touched it... and... it Boots up!
So now I'm like WTF. The only difference is the power cable...
I hook my bro's PSU To my rig WITH HIS CABLE, and I'm met by Glorious blue LEDs :)
In the end, my PSU DID Actually die (I assume this is where the cap popped), but it took a cable with it XDD
World first.

Love a happy ending, i would go with a cooler master psu as they're quite cheap for the quality you get or you could save up and get corsair psu :D

I actually made a deal with my brother, we're now using my rig with his PSU as the only comp in the house, however it's only a cx430...
Having said that, it's holding up surprisingly well, I haven't had to lower any overclocks so far (only a quick 5 min test of BF3)..,

Since I'm buying a PSU for the second time, I'm definitely going to buy name brand after all this... And Since I want to go Crossfire down the line, I think a 750w PSU would be ideal, But Corsair PSUs in that bracket are upwards of £80...

Does anyone have experience with OCZ Supplies..? Their modular 750w seems quite appealing, or could I run a FX-4300 OC and 2x6850 OC on a Corsair 650w (Plans for future)..?

DONT GO OCZ!!! they are just as bad as an unnamed brand and yes you could run that off a corsair 650w :P

EDIT: get a corsair 600w it will be enough to power your rig and its only £52:
