HELP.. Boot Problems

Just got my new 3500 + Abit MB (3rd eye)

installed the min (mem + GF Card)

when I power on it seems to boot and the MB LED seems to suggest this also, but it goes no further.. The 3rd eye shows CPU MHz, temp, fan speed and other info..

Might this be because I need to flash the BIOS????

Help...

Heard that if you install only one stick of ram then you should be able to flash it (Sorry if you have already done that)

I've done a bit of digging cos I picked up the MSI today... and according to some people on XtremeSystems the ABIT has to be either hotflashed or a 130nm putting in to flash it.

The sources say that both the MSI and ASUS have work arounds... usually by entering one stick of ram thus allowing the system to boot... but by the looks of things fella... ur guna need another chip :(

Sorry bout that had a brain $%*% anyways hope you have an old nf7 lying around lol

You basically find a mobo with the same bios chip (abit nf7-s and others) boot it up, pull the chip out and put the av8 bios chip in (while it's still running), force it to flash the proper bios, turn it off, pull the chip out and put it back in your av8. definitely not for the noob (not saying you are, I just don't want to lead too many people down this road). As I said earlier, the ONLY reason I did this is because I knew that I could order a new pre-flashed bios chip if I screwed up. Another option is to use a bios saviour (which would probably be a little safer).

stop your grining and drop your lin'in... I done it..

Hot flash... after 3 attempts it is now working..

OH YEAHHHHHHHH

installing XP as i type and I will post results of full specs and results as soon as...

Cheers to every that helped today.. :D

Yep sorry Epi the Abit definitely does not work out of the box with the 90nm chips - I discovered this myself the hard way and I had to get a newcastle cpu to flash the board. The fudges that work with the asus boards do not work with these Abit ones.

Well just a bit longer and I'll have both me 3500+ winchester and me MSI K8N Neo2 Plat. We're going for 2.5-2.6GHz minimum and that's using the stock cooler....

I will be pushing till it cries for help :P

Here is my first run. All stock HS+Fan
