Headphone help needed

I'm having some problems with my Sony headphones, basically with the jack pushed all the way the sound is horrific, i can't hear any speech at all and everything else is very distorted. I have tried with multiple devices and it's the same for everything. I have tried using a extender lead as well and i get exactly the same problem, with the extender jack plugged all the way in the sound is awful.

There are a few little nicks in the cable but nothing major.

Can i fix this or are they knackered?

Thanks for any help

sounds like a busted cable. If you are up to it what you can do is get a male to male AUX cable cut one end off, then cut the male end off of the headphone cable. Take both cables and remove a little rubber around were you cut. Then twist them together and put some wire tape around it. Yea it's ghetto, but it can work.

It sounds like your problem is with the male AUX jack of your headphones. What can happen is over time the cable in the wire can break from the male head and you would have no idea.
