HDMI problem

Okay so I have a Powercolor 5870 PCS+ and have got it hooked up to a monitor with a VGA connection and to a 42" LCD TV with a HDMI connection.

When I use the VGA on the tele it runs at full screen but when I switch it over to HDMI it has a black square around it.

I've read about the problem a little but tbh I have no clue how to fix it.

Is this a problem with ATI cards or something else entirely?

Please help

sometimes its the tv settings, my brother had the same issue and had to change it somehow, have a look at your tv manual may help

Sounds like scaling is disabled. Are you running the max res for the TV? I'm assuming it's 1920x1080? If your resolution is set less than max native for the TV and scaling is disabled, you will get black borders.

On ATI Catalyst it will only come up max 1680 x 1050 or 1080p. But it will not go full screen. So how do I enable scaling ?

Just checked my LG and Aspect Ratio is saved independently for each input (e.g. Antenna, AV1, 2, 3, HDMI 1, 2 etc) so hopefully it's the same on yours.  On the TV select the PC's HDMI input.  Then with the TV remote go Menu --> Picture --> Aspect Ratio and select.  Scroll down through all the options to find the one that gives best fit (picture changes dynamically as you scroll).  Select the one you prefer then backstep out of the menu.  It should then retain that setting every time you go to that input source.

You need to go into CCC and set the "Overscan" to max, if i remember right it is in the screen setup section. Had the same prob with a 5830.
