HDD failing?

My relatively old lappy is really slow and unresponsive. It has been for some time now and i know it can be a virus, but a year ago i tried to completely reinstall windows and a few days after the reinstall the computer started acting up again.
I just ran AVG and it said that there weren't any threats, so i suppose there is a relatively big chance that it is not a virus.

I haven't used the lappy for a long time since i gave it to my mother and my little sister because their computer died and it is near unusable now.

Any thoughts on what it could be? And can you guys suggest a good HDD testing software? I used to use a good one, but can't remember the name of it.

Thanks in advance. :p

As i expected the harddrive is failing. It's at 10% health and is estimated to only function for 14 days.... LMAO.

Thanks for the link.
