HD 7950 new equivalent ?

Since my rebuild yesterday my top gpu is running at silly temps, around the 69 mark @ 21% load. I spent the night making sure all the air was out , and I reseated the block. But nothing has helped, even with 2 fans blowing directly onto it, so it looks like it is about to die a death.

I thought about switching the card order around so the hot card wouldn't be card one, but I run eyefinity and a 50" plasma for movies, and the HDMI on the card doesn't work.

My problem is I can't afford a new single high end card, and I'm finding it hard to find a reference 7950, other than the white apple version, which is just over priced due to the nature of it being apple related. So my idea is to add whatever the equivalent is.

From research the closest is the R9 270x, or the r9 280, but I'm finding all sorts of info, some say it is a re badged 7950, other say there is no direct equivalent yet. So I have come to the people I trust for the right advise.

R9 280 is a re-badged 7950 yes so that would be the equivalent. I don't know how many reference designs will come out though since the card is getting on now and I'm sure many manufacturers will be using their own custom PCB.

The 270x is a 7870Ghz with a overclock the 280 is a 7950 with a overclock.

That's the exact chart I'm basing my thoughts on. Up until now, the only 280's I have found ( pre order ) are all non reference. I have just found a Powercolor 7950 on Amazon for £200 so that might be an option

Yes the 280's are not ready here yet i'd wait for one of those the retail price for those in the uk is supposed to start at £180 i think those price's on scan are more of a placeholder.
