Hey guys, as of right now i have a q6600 out of an HP using an ASUS IPIBL-LB motherboard made for HP running at stock 2.4ghz (as i am not able to OC on a retail pc board) that has 4gb ddr2 667 and a nvidia GTX 460... i made this pc out of parts i got from some friends so that i'd have something to game on while i put together my i7 rig. currently its "ok" putting out around 35-50 fps on most games i play- however I'm picky and would really like to get into the 60+ range.
I bought an i7-940 the beginning of this year from a friend for really cheap but now I'm wondering is it worth it to make the swap to a new mobo, 6 or 12gb 1600 ram triple channel mem, and get a cpu cooler (which would be around $400) for the x58 plat form. With the new platform i could eventually get a 2nd GTX 460 for SLI which by benchmark is similar in performance to the GTX 580 (which would be the same cost of upgrade to x58).
My dilemma is that idk if its worth it to keep my 940 or to sell it and upgrade to 1155 instead and get a new 2600k plat form running 8gb 1600 ram dual channel (which i would assume would be an extra 100 or 200 by the time i sell my current i7-940). It was more motherboard to chose from which all have a few more features than the x58 and have a nicer bios. Again I eventually get another GTX 460 later when i have even more cash on hand.
Any ideas and views on this would be much appreciated.
