has anyone used AS5 before?

i just put AS5 on my CPU core and its small amount and my temps havent really gone anywhere?:S

And were you careful with it.

Also AS5 takes about 200hrs to "burn in" after wich time the temps should drop more.

And if you're cooling aint great in the first place....then it won't make a massive amount of difference, although it should do some!

AS5 is pretty finnicky about how it's applied, most people use WAYYYYYY to much. You just need a small BB sized drop right in the middle of ur IHS or just a tiny dab in the center of ur die if you have an exposed-die chip.

With that said, AS5 is the best you can get.

Give it some time to burn in and you should see a small decrease in temps over time.

You need a very small amount.. Just enough to cover the words on the CPUs HS

If you put too much temps will go way up

Try reapplying with the least amount possible

You only need a very small amount of as5 (grain of rice sized).

You will probably then see the temperature difference over the next few weeksn once its had time to settle.

my method with AS5 has been to draw one really thin long line at one end of the cpu IHS and use a credit card to spread it in an even layer all over the IHS. Works the best for me and also drops the amount of time required for burn in . Works better than the drop method but that might just be me. Ohh and keep the AS5 tube out in the sun for a bit before applying or near some warm source , that makes it more liquidy and easier to apply.

|3ourne You just blow on it because you are full of hot air before you apply it

BTW Don't forget to apply the AS5 to your HSF as well wiping it on to fill the tiny crevices then wipe it completely off.

Yeah that is interesting..cept if i clean my HSF then i use Tim cleaner...maybe I'll try that on my xp-120!

I always apply a tiny dab of compound on the bottom of the heatsink or waterblock and it hasn't failed me yet

I used it on my Athlon XP with no problems....it worked 100times better than any previous thermal paste and nothing ever got shorted!!
