Hard Drive Problems in Event Viewer

've been having a couple of nigs with a couple of hard drives.

My Boot Drive which is a WD 80gig and a Samsung F3 1tb for my Programs and games.

I was noticing a slowness in performance, and I decided to take a peak in event viewer:

I followed the info from this link: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=262448

The problem still remains I'm thinking it's a fault with the hard drive?

With the other Drive via event viewer it's on about that the drive needs an update of firmware found the drive in question:

I download the file and burned the file onto disk didn't work (Not booting from the Disk)

hi there

how i would proceed:

- run mhdd32 against your drives in question to scan for bad sectors and high latencies on the drive itself or the conroller

after errors and high latencies:

- run mhdd32 again against the drive in question connected to another computer

no errors: faulty mass storage controller on your board

errors: faulty drive

i am very sorry that i could not give you more detailed hints. the screenshot provided is so lo-res i can't read it.

best regards

I ran my "PC Check" Program on the said Drive all came back fine - So I very much doubt it's a drive issue, I'm going along the route about replacing the Data Cables I wouldn't think its the Sata Ports on the board have gone though.

You can also check whether you have the correct SATA drivers installed. You'll be able to find it in the Computer Management -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller section.

You can download the latest from the website of your motherboard manufacturer or if you know which drivers are needed, you can also go directly to Intel and find it there. Also make sure that you've set the correct controller for your SATA ports in BIOS.

Ile try Drivers from the Asus Website now. Can you explain how I set the correct Sata Ports for my Drives in the Bios?

When you're in the BIOS you should be able to find the section (Integrated Peripherals I think) where you choose the modes of your SATA controller. For example, you can have your SATA drives run IDE mode or AHCI, or even RAID if you have that configured as well. For AHCI mode, you'll have to be careful with XP as you need to have the Intel AHCI driver installed during XP setup otherwise it won't work if you tried to change it after XP is installed. If you already know which SATA controller or the mode your hard drives are running then going to Intel to download the driver will be simple.

I know for a fact they are on IDE Mode never a problem with that one......

Can I submit a bigger picture of the event viewer situation ????
