Hackintosh + PC (Gaming)

Hi,

I'm looking to build a Hackintosh/PC with gaming capabilities . I'm not a hardcore gamer but going for something that will last. Gaming via PS3 at the mo. Nothing wrong that but as I'm doing a custom build I thought it might as well be up to the game.

I was all set to purchase the Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H however, now I'm not so sure. Also been looking at the Asus P8Z68-V/Gen3.

Anyone got any recommendations/comments on these or any other board?

Only requirement is that it is compatible with a Hackintosh build. Don't really have a budget as such but going from the above two boards maybe around the £200 mark... I'm open to suggestions /comments.

Cheers,
Mart

Don't have much of an idea about the whole hackintosh thing, but for the sub £200 mark most people here would recommend the Msi Z77 MPower, or the GD65 if you want to save a bit more or you prefer the aesthetics. Both are brilliant boards, especially for the money.

Thanks for the replies and recommendations. The MPower is extremely appealing  Hadn't even looked at MSI until now

Found a good vid on it too: MSI Z77 MPower

Also looks likely it is compatible with a Hackintosh build :)

Thanks again,
Mart

The m-power is an amazing board but according to tonymacx86 gigabyte board seem to work the best

I've heard that most Z77 boards should work, though I'd personally still go with a Gigabyte one as you do the clean install with an older version of Mac OS X (Snow Leopard) which doesn't support things like Intel HD 4000 and the newer audio and LAN chips.

If you can't get your LAN to work, you can't download a new version of OS X, and get the correct drivers (Cause the LAN drivers do exist in Mountain Lion, but if you can't get there, it's useless...)

^Problem I ran into myself  Was lucky enough to find kexts for my particular board (Z77-d3h) for Mountain Lion and they worked within Snow Leopard so I had internet and could upgrade

i don't really have a problem using linux on my workstation but i'll probably need os x for my studies and i don't feel like doing it all on my laptop and the desktop solutions from apple are a joke... probably just gonna install os x as a guest os.
