h70 vs fan Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler

Hi guys back with another question for you all

we all know that the Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler is a beast to say the least. What couter parts does it have in the liquid world and why?

The closest seems to be the h70 from cosair but thats a slightly more expensive. h50 is at the same price point but in reviews seems to be out done by several legs. tho safty is a concern i have heard very good things about the closed cerciut so that wouldnt be a factor.

so the bottom line is can anyone clarify why it would be beter to go liquid?

The H70 is so similar to the H50 in benchmarks they might as well be the same product IMO. Either go custom water cooling or stick with something like the NH-D14. The only application where the h50/70 really are viable IMO is HTPC.

Depends whats under the hood! h70 is great on saving space in your case allowing bigger ram sinks etc and a all round clean look.

I'd say the h70 is only good for the 4ghz sweet spot on an i7 whereas the noctua could more than likely take it higher with less noise and heat.

yeah i will have fairly large ram hyperx and it will be cooled with fans that would not fit with the noctua. tbh i would rather the noctua becuase of safty but the h70 looks so dam sweet and tidy, in austalia it's about $60 more then the noctua, i will enetually have hopefully an oc of about 4ghz if all goes well

would it be worth buying the h70 even tho it more expensive?

Ive already reviewed the H70. The Noctua just slapped it in the face and walked off with the winners trophey

wow really when, ive followed you for ages on yt never saw it. but yeah deffs the noctua then, its just the h70 gives you so much more room to work with

Yup this seems to be one thing that every review on the internet (barring the Americans) seem to agree on. The H70 is ludicrously priced, quite noisy and still suffers the problems of the H50. IE - as the hours pass the fluid warms and the loop is simply not long enough to keep the liquid in the same temperature threshold.

The only reasons to get a H70 would be because -

1. You are absolutely fascinated by water cooling and simply must have it without all the pipe cutting and plumbing.

2. Don't know much about it and think it's as good as a real WC setup.

3. Have lost your marbles somewhere down the M1 and can't seem to be able to find them again.

They are supposed to last three years or something on the coolant inside. That's fine of course. However, if that thing was to fail for ten seconds it's game over. Your CPU will explode. If a fan on a regular cooler fails you'll get plenty of warning before any damage is caused. It still carries some of the risks of water cooling (failed pump ETC).

Pretty much every air cooler around the £40 mark beats the H70, can maintain the temps it gave you on day one for 24 hours a day, costs way less and is much less of a pain to install.

Aye you'll love it mate. I've had three coolers (countem) on my 940 prior to using the NH-D14 and none of them would allow me to go past 3.4ghz without my PC turning into a barbeque. Temps @ 3.4ghz were 38 idle 52 Prime. The NH allows me to hit 3800mhz 36-37 idle (depending on how sunny it is) and 46 load in LinX (my new weapon of mass destruction) and 51 in Prime. At 1.45v instead of 1.35.

Impossible. If you don't already have ram get different ram (yes, it really is that good).

Yeah gotta say respect to Mushkin. They have realised that you really don't need to waste precious metal on cooling that does nothing. As such you can fit a decent cooler over their ram

How many more times at stock 1.65v ram doesnt bloody need cooling!

You cant fit a ram heatsink with the noctua, but you dont need one either hence the design!
