H60 (2013 edition) seating problem

Hey lads. So my H60 broke on me a few weeks back so I ordered the new model. The post was naturally backed up during Christmas times so I just got it today.

I quickly discovered that the seating of the pump is a real bitch! The tubes are flexible enough, but they create such resistance to the pump when seating it (forcing it to tilt) that when I finally got it on I think I might have let the pump slide on the CPU a bit so the Thermal Paste got smudged I think.

The temperatures idle at 30-34C ish (2500k@1.37V, 24C ambient) but whenever I put it under any heavy load it spikes right up to 78-82C.

I've got a mate whos got some spare Thermal paste from his NH-D14 that I'm getting tomorrow, question is really.. Do you lot have any tips on the optimal way to apply it and any household items that can be used to remove the leftover paste? Ran out of TIM cleaner today while changing to the new pump.

You could try a very very clean rag and whipe it all really clean till there is nothing on if you don't have special cleaning stuff. Your temps are ok if you ask me, althought I don't have lots of experience with Intel CPU's, but if you're using a stress test program like prime95 or something similar, then it means that you won't be reaching temps that high with noral gaming use.

i ue a coffee filter (less lint) and lighter fluid to clean TIM off surfaces.
nothing fancey-schamancy.

and just a small pea sized drop in the center, this way if you have to rotate the pump
it'll kinda level it out.

Aye, that's what I thought. A coffee filter or something. Read that they should do the trick.

Yeah, no.. My old H60 topped out at 67-69 even while priming for 24 hours..
I did a little digging real quick and there are more people complaining that the thermal paste that comes with the new Hydro series is applied with too thin a layer. Obviously I can't confirm or deny that seeing as my case might be down to user error..
