H55 Are They OK

Had little money left after my build and wanted some water cooling for my cpu and as my local PC World had one of these in stock whilst I was there I thought why not at £49.99 Corsair H55 Hydro Series.I must say not as simple to fit as the box might lead you to believe and 4 hours of you tube vids I finally cracked it and had it fitted it doesnt light up or anything as much as i can see. The only reason I think its working is that my CPU 3570K shows temps of 33degrees C on all 4 cores which does seem a lot cooler.Does this seem right any advice thankfully recieved

There is nothing that's supposed to light up on the H55. The H100, H100i, H80 and H80i pump blocks have built-in LEDs but the lower end coolers in the series do not.

Thankyou Feronix and can you put my mind straight on the temps too please. I am going to attempt my 1st overclock so although quite nervous would feel happier knowing that with this cooler I can go ahead and tweak the CPU only up to 4.2ghz if possible hence the water cooler unit .When I get my new case I will invest heavily in some liquid cooling kit but as a newb to both Liquid Cooling and Overclocking have had to start off small scale

If you want to overclock youll need to spend more or go deaf.

IE: if you are going to overclock change the cooler. Also only n00bs use mobo fan headers without setting everything up (takes ages) most of us wire direct to PSU with fan speed reducers.


Also idle temps mean nothing. I hope youve read our guide because if you have your vcore on auto your going to get laughed at for being a n00000b

test your load temps with stock clocks first.
the 33 degrees you mentioned are idle temps i suppose

for overclocking, 4.2 should be possible

First I'd recommend you to use something like Intel Burn Test and/or Prime95 to see how warm your CPU gets under load. Although 33 degress is pretty good, idle temps mean literally nothing.

Keep 80 Degrees as an absolute maximum, you don't want your CPU any warmer than that. Then start tweaking in your bios, but don't just bump the thing up to 4.2GHz at once. Do it bit by bit and don't forget to run IBT/Prime95 to check if everything is still stable.

Thanks Tom your a bundle of confidence yep watched your vids and your on for a oscar in my household atm as my kids think your the only person on tv atm .As I said not going all out but just being a noob though will follow your advice completely by the book as cant afford replacements at present.Will get Intel Burn Test and Prime 95 also and also have OCCT but when it comes to wiring straight to CPU youve lost me being a noob and all but eventually will learn as thats why im here thanks all

H60 (2013) is good for the money mate, I used it in fred rig but youll have to either spend ages on the fan profiles or set it up direct to PSU like I did.

H60 is a much better build quality and has the same pump/cold plate as the H80i and H100i.

Thanks Tom will go for the 100i in a few weeks when next paycheck comes in so can be more confident at trying out more complicated projects. How would i connect to the psu is that wire stripping and electrical connectors from the fans to 12v rail wires sounds complicated or is it simple
