Warning, this is for Intermediate/Advanced Users ONLY. Do not follow through if you have NO CLUE about anything

Welcome! This guide will help you unlock your NV40 (nVidia 6800), to full 6800GT/Ultra, with NO BIOS Modding, Volt Modding, etc. This is all done with software.

First off, you need a 6800! Heres my BFG 6800 OC

Now, You need RivaTuner. Download It Here.

http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=163

Then, start it up, and go into Customize, Low Level System Settings.

Then install the nvstrap driver, check "Allow enabling hardware masked units", and in the checkdown box press custom, then press customize.

Check those two circled ones, one is Pixel Pipelines, those are four pipes. The vertex shader almost ALWAYS works on 6800's, so if you restart and play a game and you get little dots or large artifacts, disable the pipes and keep the vertex shader and retest.

Then apply and restart, then open back up rivatuner once rebooted

It should say this...

If it doesnt you didnt follow directions properly, try again. If it does run a DX9 3D Game.

If all is a go, then have fun! If you get artifacts exit game and lock the pixel pipes keep the vertex shader.

Restart and try a game again, if sucessful, then alreet!

*Note, if rivatuner is uninstalled, your vertex shaders and pixel pipelines will be locked again*

Enjoy!

*NOTE, I am not responsible for broken hardware! This WILL Void your warranty if it is caught, AND you are taking chances. Most people do not encounter damage, but, your up against some odds*

Not bad NickS!!

Are you a member of BFG Gaming forums? If so then post it in the Ultimate OC'ing guide in tech section!

If not, still some good advice - Respekt! :worship:

Thanks, Everyone! I really, appreciate it! You're all so nice at this forum, it's awesome!:worship:

Fresh forum, fresh attitudes :) it's all to build a functional online community after all... out of interest, how come the vertex shaders are more likely to work than pixel pipelines? That stumped me..

Honestly, I'm not sure. I guess because Vertex shaders are less prone to go bad, or because there is only one of them? Not sure, but really, 6800NU's are 6800GT/Ultra cores, at a lower clock frequency, that are actually Defective. nVidia isn't purposly making them not work, they are locked for a reason. I know that, but why pixel pipelines are more prone to be broken over vertex shaders? Not sure.

Try using this,

Your Best Friend On The Internet :rollingla

I knew that they were locked for a reason similar to that - but I have heard of them being unlocked before. This can be done via a BIOS/Softhard mod as i like to call them! A lot do go wrong afterwards tho!

Yeah but can't be bothered to google it! hehe - it is your best friend on the web tho!!

hey, NickS, great guide! would you mind going to the BFG forums (www.bfggaming.com) and posting your guide in the Forums>Tech Support>"Ultimate Overclocking Guide" thread? if you dont want to do it, i can copy it for you and post it, giving credit to you :D

but in any case, it deserves to be there! (i am trying to get enough good info in that thread so it becomes sticky) thanks

PS: the direct link to that thread is: http://bfggaming.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=405

thanks :D

lol idk, they might just find out :P

jk, if its a software "hack" i wouldnt think they could tell, as if you uninstall the program it goes back to normal...

ps, i have a FX 5200... is there any way i could turn it into the Ultra version? (and yes, i kno it sucks, thats why im getting a 6600GT!) thanks

pretty good, thios looks like a pretty good place, although not as big as BFG... but ill definately be hanging around here fairly often :D

Thanks, NickS, for posting in the BFG forum :D

how about a 6800 NU 256 bit NV41 (A2, 12x1, 5vp) with 256mb ddr? this is a pci express card? it would be nice to do this mod to my card but in riva tuner the options look different. thanks
