i saw it but once you are a mod no loose tounges

I would laugh at Dave for being crap at typing but I couldn't even be arsed to figure my gateway address out and asked him how so maybe I won't ;)

haha, i like to think i am learning my way around networks quite nicely. learnt some advanced stuff lately

i really like networks now.....once i got my head around my old crossover network i was pretty pleased with myself..

also i just noticed something Nick....

Then you recieve the time back in "ms," or milli-seconds. (1ms = 1/60 of a second)

How Do I Test My Ping?

a ms is actually 1/100th of a second.

also if i was going to be real fussy..

It would actually be testing YOUR ping. you're is abbreviated version of "you are" and "testing you are ping" doesnt really make sense does it..

damn dont u just love revived threads ;)

I love when people correct other people who get information wrong and can't spell in the same thread :D

Dont know if this has been mentioned before but there is a nice piece of software called the ping plotter , it continuously pings an address or game server ip and can tell you if your loosing packets etc.

Its a good troubleshooter if you find yourself lagging while gaming online or just generally getting a rubbish connection while surfing

OMG two posts and both get this wrong I can't believe this. I have a class of 10 year old that can explain this as prefix of metric measurements.

Second is the SI unit and with anything in front of it changes the value by some multiple.

Milli = 1/1000th

Centi = 1/100th

Deci = 1/10th

Kilo = 1,000

Mega = 1,000,000

Giga = 1,000,000,000

Tera = 1,000,000,000,000

I realise some will be thinking thats not right when memory is considered and you are right as memory still runs on base 8 (a bit) value of 1024.

Kilo = 1,024

Mega = 1,048,576

Giga = 1,073,741,824

Tera = 1099511627776
