GTX460 FTW!

YEA! i am going to get one and use it as a physX card. my 9600 alpha dog is running dry with the new physX apps. this EVGA should be a fine replacement!

If you're gonna use this as a dedicated PhysX card then what the hell must you be using as your main card?

well i was using a 5870 till it fried. i am ordering a R5870 lightning from msi and going to OC it to 1ghz core, hopefully 1.2ghz core and 1300 memory. and a 460 is perfect for a physx card for modern physX games. with my 9600xxx as a physx card in games like Metro 2033 and mafia II is used 100% and is still not enough. a overclockable 460 like an EVGA card (a perfect on all levels OC card for Nvidia), would make a GREAT physX card, and would be future proof. at stock clocks it would be just a little tiny bit more than i will need, and as physx apps become more intensive i can OC the piss out of this thing to get what i want.

when i was using my 470 as a dedicated physx card it was using 60% of the card most of the time in metro 2033 and it jumped to 80% on a few occasions.

Hmm. I thought that a 240 was the same as a 9800GT but apparently not. It's supposedly the same as a 9600GT..

Any way, in a phenom 9950 machine earlier with Mafia II with physx on medium, shadows on medium and everything else on max I averaged 24FPS and maxed at 35 *just* with the 240.

Once it's only doing physx and I have my faster CPU and 5770s in there it should go faster.. So maybe that American willy has it wrong?*

*I refer to that silly sod who did the review of 460 GTX SLI with 24gb of ram

Well Batman reccs a 9800GTX *top*.

My 8800 Ultra absolutely spat it out like lightning but alas it's too big and too hot and noisy to even be considered

9800GT does seem a very good choice IMO. It's slim too. Only thing is the whiny fan.

EDIT. 8800GTS are five and ten a penny on Ebay atm. I've seen them for £40, XFX, brand spanking new.

i have tried 8800GTSs and my 9600GT is OCed to 9800specs, they all hit 100% when i blast the PhysX settings in games like Mafia II and Metro 2033. i the only card that will run Physx perfectly that i have available to me is my GTX 470 and even that was hitting 80% but usually stays around 30% and 50% in physx based games, (the newer ones). so i need a card much sronger than the 8800 and the 9800, and the 460 is reasonably priced, and can be greatly OCed for future hardcore physx apps.
