OK thanks.
I was under the impression that the 970's performance was a little less but the power consumption was a lot less.
How come the 780 costs more than the 970?
MSI are offering to swap my problematic 780 Twin Frozrs for GTX 970 4GD5T OC. I'm trying to work out if I should be biting their hand off on that offer or not. Seems like the card they're offering is the lower tier 970.
Actually the 970 is equal to the 780 in some scenarios, and faster in others. If it's a free upgrade from MSI away from a problematic 780 then I see no reason not to do it.
I find that very hard to believe considering Nvidia support cards all the way back to the 400 series at this point in time and that's nearly 6 years old.
It's just that they code the drivers for their newest cards, the fact that older cards don't benefit as much from this is not their main focus. It's like old Windows versions, you'll still get security updates, just don't expect new features on an old platform.
