GTX 590 Overheating

What!?

Now I am completely mind blown.. Pushing a lot of FPS = heat, only using one core/card in SLi/Multi-GPU = heat.. But I have never heard of a game that just makes the card overheat...

This just makes no sense... You tried it on the other monitor?

Fraps confirms that my frames are maxing at 60, and even at 120 the load is still 99% on the 2nd core. Even when I didn't disable SLI it still only uses one core. I'll try another monitor but I doubt it will help.

It will only use one core, The Sims 3 isn't SLI compatible and causes instability when ran in SLI that's why we recommended you turn it off when running The Sims.

Still puzzeled. What is the max temp it has reached so far?

I understand it isn't SLI compatible, but even with Multi GPU turned off I get the same temps and core usage.

I also get extreme whine from my GPU and this is the only game that causes this.

I know I have nothing to worry about temp wise, but when I play BF3 on ultra I get max temps of 60 Celsius. When I play the sims on low, GPU usage maxes and temps go upwards of 70.

I'm confused.

I'd just put it down to the game being unoptimised. It sounds like the card doesn't actually have vsync on even though it is capped at 60. Have you tried forcing vsync through the Nvidia Control Panel?

I guess that's it then. The Sims 3 is just not GPU friendly.

I wouldn't worry too much, 70oC is perfectly safe.

The whine is perfectly normal. Just the sweet sound of high frequencies. Every high end GPU I have ever owned has made said whine. Nothing to be worried about... although it may give you a headache.

I'd install the game on another ig and see if it exhibits the same issue if it doesnt then it has something to do with the way things are on the one your trying to play it on.

I don't know anyone else with a 590.

I managed to solve the games constant crashing (even in 3D mode), all I had to was enable DEP and allow Sims 3.

Still kills my card when 3D is off but why not play 3D, am I right?
