GTX 580 Air Question

Hello, I know that I've made a post before questioning the temps of my GTX 580 and came to the conclusion that it isn't too hot compared to some others.

But I still can't help but wonder what 75-80 degrees could do to a graphics card over time. ( as in the temperatures having a bad effect on the cards life span )

Or does it not matter as long as you replace the thermal paste every couple of months?

Thanks for reading.

Hi,

I've been using a 580 for about 2.5 years, with it running 24/7 for most of that period (ever since I got into F@H). I've not seen any signs of wear apart from the fans dying on my original 580 - this was after 2 years of use.

The GPU temperature mostly hovers at around the 75 - 80 C mark. When the temperature does inevitably rise I simply replace the thermal paste and go about my merry way.

Those are perfectly acceptable temperatures. The only thing you could do is putting an aftermarket cooler on it, whether that is an air heatsink, a watercooling block, or a solution like the new NZXT G10, wich is a bit of both.

Thanks for the feed back.

An after market cooler might be pretty good tbh as they're generally pretty cheap and probably could make a difference compared to the standard air blower that the 580 comes with.

I was possibly thinking of making a water cooled build in the future, I'm unsure whether I'd use my 580 or not but that's a different topic.
