GTX 570 Water block options

Hi all,

I recently picked up a 2nd GTX 570, so now I have both an original Palit GTX 570 and a newer Inno3d GTX 570. Both appear to be working well in SLi.

Now, both these cards are "Reference" design - it even says so on the boxes. However they are different revisions of reference, as such the Inno3D card is a good 3cm shorter and has the power connectors on the end rather than on the top of the card like the Palit. The Palit has a blower type fan near the far end of the card whereas the Inno3D has more conventional fan in the centre of the card. The latter does provide better cooling, though it is also the lower card so likely it's position helps.

I was planning (well, trying to avoid really but I'm compelled

) to pop a water block on each as part of an overall CPU and GPU loop. Whether I keep things in my existing CM 690 II using an external rad, or pick up a TJ07 and use a 480 + a 360 rad internally is a question for later...I'm leaning in the direction of the TJ07 at the mo

So, if both cards are "reference" will the same "reference design" coolers fit does anyone know? I mean, despite the cards differences are the GPU and vRam etc. located in the same place one one block fits both?

I'll be doing some digging myself, but would like to hear from forum members who have any experience of these two, slightly different, reference designs.

What's wrong with just picking a water block that fits to the specifik GPU?

Because there isn't a block for every card only reference PCB designs, so cards like the Asus DCU and MSI TWF III etc don't have a water block.

As long as the PCB has the screw holes in the same place at a guess i'd say that you should be able to fit a block for it, don't quote me on it though.

Yeah, I need to do some digging certainly, just thought I'd ask here first in case someone has direct experience. Note: BOTH cards are labeled as "reference" yet they changed things on the newer ones. Like you say, I just hope the screw holes, GPU and vRam locations all match up.

That's the first thing I did after overclocking. It's most definitely testing. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. The configurator that ruthless pointed you towards is a great website.

Yep, testing is important and very scientific

The pair of 570's really do pump out some heat though! I think I will ahve to bite the bullet and go full water loop. Though the external rad Tom linked me to is doubless a good one, I'm not sure I can go external rad from both a looks and space/ability to locate it properly perspective.

My big build was always planned for the next rig, however I'm bringing things forward to this build as this rig has been so good. I'm concerned I might end up spending a lot more money in increments rather than doing it right once. Though saying that it will doubtless be fun & a good learning experience doing said increments, but I don't want to be bleeding cash for the next few months lol.

I really need to do some more homework myself on this.

Yeah, I get what you mean. I'm yet to get around to double checking exactly what's what. I don't want to have to take them apart to check directly.

As both are reportedly reference, though a different revision of reference (*sigh*) I hope I'll be ok. Maybe I should call SpecialTech directly and ask those guys, they should know the differences I'd have thought.

Inno3D is much shorter so something is different for sure.

Edit: My Inno3D card does not look like that - my Palit sone does mind! My Inno3D Card has one larger fan in the centre of it, yet the box still says "reference". Apparently they revised the reference design so two reference designs for the 570 confuses things.

The Palit card looking like that is not listed on Palits own site, even under obsolete products. Inno3D's site is still not responding.

Palit cooler looks reference i don't know about the inno, it also *looks* reference just with a center positioned fan(I do not know if this is the revised version or just a custom cooler on a "reference" pcb).... ask the specialtech forums as they are the specialists (as far as TTl says) or call them

Hmm, not impressed with SpecialTech's "Technical Support" line so far. I was put on hold after making my selection, left waiting then cut off. Frustrating and not the best first experience with them. I thought a quick call would be a better approach than signing up for another forum, posting, waiting etc.

I will try again in a mo but select the Sales option this time, maybe that line is answered.

Tried again, Sales Line selected this time...left on hold for a minute, then told the line is unavailable. Guess their phones aren't permanently manned...off to the forum then...

Forums is the best way to be honest, the person on the phone might not be able to help you and it's money wasted on the phone bill, also you have more than one person on the forum that can help and one might know something another doesn't. They reply pretty quickly on the ST forums as well, you wont be waiting too long.
