I recently got my evga geforce gtx 480 and i was wondering if it is normal for it to be such a high temperature when playing games like fallout new vegas mafia 2 and black ops. black ops temps usually between 60-65C. When playing fallout the temps go between 70-75C and when playing mafia 2 the temperature is constantly at 80C.I wanted to know if these temps are nor because i was thinking of getting a graphics card cooloer.

I had my GTX260 running 24/7 FAH at 102c

I know its not the same GPU but still.......

EDIT now its back at 80c +- ...

I don't have one of these cards myself but from what I have read and heard, This is completely normal, those cards run VERY HOT!

80C is nothing to worry about on the 480.

^ Wot he said. That's actually pretty damn low

My 470 reaches 74 with the fan on 80%.

If you want to see just how hot and loud it can really get fire up Furmark*

*On second thoughts don't. I think the power pinch would take down your entire local grid.

That's kinda what i was trying to say but looking back at my own post , i just didn't

I had different types of GPU's running way above their thermal limit and i never broke one in regards to heat , knocks on wood !

Hello.

I had 107 degrees

all Nvidia Control Pannel settings maxed, SLI 64xAA etc. The case was closed, removing the side pannel helps alot, the temps plumet

This happened playing Metro 2033 with maxed settings @ 1920x1080 resolution. I was arriving to D6 and unleashed the flame thrower on those creeps

I had MSI Afterburner running and as standard the card's fans were restricted to 92% speed, so after I created a custom fan speed setting so it cranks up to 100%. Hmm I used the same settings in Crysis and the SLI 64xAA setting didn't render though the cards still got very hot. Then I restored most of the Nvidia Control Pannel settings and the cards quietly hummed their way.

The driver should have a throttle so the GPU doesn't get hotter the recommended limit wich is 105

degrees, if the GPU temperature keeps increasing the system will shut down as a precaution.

I've attached a screenshot from metro 2033 with the temperature monitor displayed.

Thanks
