i currently own a gtx 460 768mb card and i am looking for a bit more gpu horsepower. my question is should i go for sli and will i have any problems due to the low frame buffer, i have read ttl's and Mr strawberry's reviews on sli and it seems to not have harmed their results.

my card is overclocked to 850mhz on the core and 2045mhz on the memory.

Depends a little on what games as not every game uses SLI...

but hey if you can, I say: do it...........

If your main games include bf3 or skyrim selling your 460 and putting the money towards a card like a 7850/570 will help more than a 2nd card just because of the extra vram tbh.

i am well aware that not all games support sli or crossfire, my main concern is a performance bottleneck in games like battlefield 3 or crysis 2 due to the low video ram. I'm playing in 1080p.

I'm able to buy an identical card for quite cheap, and i do not have the funds atm to get a £200 card even if I got a good price for my 460.

On high preset at 1080p on bf3 i usualy sit around the 750-850mb vram mark so you would be better with a single higher end card with some more vram (like i said before a 7850/gtx 570 will be spot on and will be around £200)

as i said before i cannot afford either of those cards, i have a max of £80 and what i can get for the 460 (provided i can get a buyer)

Due to your low budget I'd say yeah gtx 460 sli would be your best bet

i would always say invest in the more efficient and new products out there but the best improvement you will get in your budget = another 460

after some consideration i have decided to wait and buy a single more powerful card at a later date when it becomes financially feasible.

thanks to all who posted your help and insight was appreciated.

just had a friend of mine offer his identical asus 460 to me for £60, an offer i could not refuse. it seems i've gone back on my word.

lol £60 is a bargin tho happy gaming
thanks

it was a terrific bargain, same make and model as mine as well. one of the reasons i was deciding against sli was the odds of getting an identical card at £80 as its rarer, i'm a bit ocd about things like this.

all in all it couldn't have worked out better.
