gtx 275 ram question

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i have a EVGA gtx 275 ftw edition, it's a 896 mb of ram. i'm running vista ultimate 64.

my system :

aus p6t deluxe oc palm (1606.rom latest bios)

cpu intel core i7 920 2.66 (OC 3.44)

evga gtx 275 ftw 896 mb

ocz platinum 6gb 1600 (OC 1750)

corsair 850w

dvd rw lg

wd velociraptor 150 gb

wd 1 TB black caviar

wd 500 GB black caviar

noctua cpu fan

cooler master haf case

well, when i opened the display settings, advanced settings, i find the followings:

-total available graphics memory 3707 mb

-dedicated video memory 896 mb

-system video memory 0mb

-shared system memory 2811 mb

why does it have a shared memory? does that mean that a 2.8 gb of my 6 gb are permanently allocated and reserved for the vga, so that i'm using a 3.2 gb only in my applications?

why shouold i go for shared, can i disable the sharing of rams and use only the dedicated?

and what about the system video memory of 0mb is it normal?

thanks in advance for your help

no i just means that if your gpu runs out of memory then it will use some of the ram, just like if your ram runs out of space it uses the hard drive to help it out,

The only way your gpu is gonna run out of memory is if your playing a game like crysis at 2560 x 1680 at full wack.
