Hello there, new to the forum but been a regular visiter for years.

Would like some advice.
I have a HTPC which i brought with me to uni, made from spare/leftover parts, features an SSD, but it isn't worth much incase anything happened to it.

Now, i'm slowing getting the bug to get back into gaming, not sure if this is good or bad?

Anyway i have the oppertunity to purchase this:
http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1073&pid=1356&psn=&lid=1&leg=0
Or this:
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-...r3-gpu-901mhz-384-cores-dvi-d-dvi-i-mini-hdmi

I have been offered both for £35, so which one would you go for? Both have the slower DDR3 memory, but the HD6750 requires an additional 6pin power.

Thank you gor looking.
Regards, Richard.

When you say 'getting back into game', can you be more specific? Cause neither of those cards is going to be very good for that.

What are the other components in the build (CPU, RAM, PSU, etc)?

What case as well? It is quite important to know that as some htpc cases that aren't built for gaming (e.g. those shuttle PCs) can't fit much in them.

Sorry, wrote that early this morning on the train.

I have my 'propper computer' at home that'll play games but i didn't want to take it with me.

The specs are as follows:
ASUS M4A78LT-M LE
AMD Athlon II X2 255 - 3.1GHz
4GB of Gskill DDR3 1333MHz
And the case is like a coolermaster elite 310 but slightly smaller, don't think it has a name even. Not brilliant, but not a hot box either. It was available at the time, i'll find a link if you want but its good enough type of thing.
360w seasonic psu
C300 64gb + 160gb toshiba laptop hdd

I'm wanting something that'll play games like F1 2012 at 1620x1050, not to powerful but just enough to get going with, not use to much power and stay fairly quiet, hence the 2 options listed above.

If i've forgotten anything else, let me know.
Regards, Richard.

7770 for £80 - This'll play F1 high/ultra at around 40/50fps at that rez.

7750 for £65 - High @35/40

Honestly the best ways to go... think the 7750 doesn't even need a 6-pin

/EDIT : Just noticed you can get the cards you mentioned for £35... 6750 will be faster :)

I can find a 650ti boost as cheap as a 7790 and the boost is much much faster. Options change quite a bit as we get higher in the prices.

Thank you for all the replies and ideas, i've gone for the 6750.
The fanboy within wanted the GT640 but for the same price the 6750 was faster on reviews i read.

I'll update this later on comparing F1 onboard graphics to the 6750.

Regards, Richard.

Good morning,
Thought i really should update this, not the best way of testing but it should give you an idea of the difference it has made.
F1 2010
Onboard: Low at 800x600
8FPS min - 14FPS average

HD6750: High at 1680x1050
32FPS min - 37FPS average

Tested using the in game benchmark, made hugh difference and has made the game fun again, loads a lot quicker too

Thank you for your help, hoping to become more active on the forum.
Cheers, Richard.

give yourself that little extra boost, run your games in 1440*900 (16:10, just one step down, and wont have any dramatic effect on visuals, aside from a boost in frames)

I run a 7950 and run all my games (ok its not a lot) in 1440*900, apart from COD4.

6750 ain't doing so bad for the money.. almost getting 1FPS per pound you spent.

Also mathius you could run 1080p at max settings with that 7950... Just like i do.

@Mathius, i'll give it a go but the game is perfectly playable. Although sometimes when in a race rather than the benchmark it does dip to 25 ish.
I may experiment with a slight overclock later, but atm its still that much above onboard i'm happy with it :)

@NeverBackDown, yeah i'm really pleased with it, just what i wanted. It never goes above 70degrees, &stays quiet.

I have a GTX275 at home that's in my other computer but this card is fair more effiecient, so i'm happy to stick with it for now.

Why would you do that to yourself when you can grab a new HD7770 (and a free game!) for around £70?

Hello cooperman.
The thing is, as i posted earlier, this computer was built on a budget. The total cost so far using spare parts and some new/2nd hand is: £177
Spending £70/80 on a graphics card wasn't possible as this is only to get me by this year.

And i tend to buy in the steam sale, so i've got some games which i've been meaning to play. Hence F1 2010 :L
