Grinding noise

Hi i bought a 300GB sata as i run out of space but as of late it makes a small grinding noise when its being accessed and when the the pc powers off it makes a long grinding noise

however they seems to be no reduction in performance i still run my games off it and they run smoothly and when the games are being played it doesn't make any grinding noise.

Never a good sign if a HDD makes irregular noises, Even though it works fine now I'd recommend you getting that HDD replaced asap to ensure you don't loose important data.

In my experiance grinding means somethings working loose which means data loss is in the post.

Sounds like it's dying i'd back everything up asap and listen out for a clicking sound, when that happens, it's on it's last breathes.

Your data is worth much more than the actual drive itself, sounds like you need a new one.

it hasnt done it a few times and still performs well and top speed i listened to all those sounds nice find but it doesn't sound anything like them it there any programs that will make the HDD spin fully so i could record the sound
