...from an overclocking novice

Evening all, I'm Scott, a 34 year old IT engineer from Portsmouth UK. I've been building rigs since my very first PC all the way back in 1997! However overclocking and extreme tweaking isn't something I've ever really ventured in to. It doesn't help that my internet rig has a Q6600 on a Asus Striker motherboard, I've never been able to get any form of stable overclock on it, regardless of what voltages and clock speeds I try. I've had a little more success on my gaming rig, squeezing a stable 3.3ghz out of a Q6700 (water cooled).
It's not often that I need to ask for help when it comes to system builds (I'm usually the one being asked!) but should I ever stumble in future, I've been told that this is the place to look for help. With my next system planned for early next year (i7 950 on a Rampage III), I might be picking your collective brains for your opinions on my prospective build, but that's a few months off yet.
In the mean time, I'll have a nose around and learn the lay of the land.
