Are you sure it was a x1900gts? I've never heard of this line before?

(Must be the x1900gt I guess)

As for the PSU, no way will a 250w cope with a x1900 series.

You need at least a 30a on your 12v line and a 250w PSU just don't have that.

You will risk damaging components in your system.
 
Slink, before you run off and sink money into a power supply, can you open the case one more time?

On the power supply label, look for something that says +12v and nearby it should have a number, followed by an "A". This tells how many amps your power supply puts out on the 12V rail.

If it says anything like '+12v1' and '+12v2', then add the two amp ratings together and report back here.

FSP and sparkle are known to under rate thier psu's, but put plenty of power out. I had a 300W sparkle (rebadged FSP) and it put out 34A on dual rails.
