Intel i5-2500K @4.1Ghz
Corsair H100i
Corsair 750W Power Supply
Asus HD7970 Matrix Platinum (Running on Asus's GPU Tweak 'Gaming Mode')
Patriot Viper 'Black Mamba' 8gb 2x4GB (Upgrading to 16GB soon)
WD Carviar Green (Wish id got a black .__.)

Anyway basically my problem is that my graphics card is really not performing how id expect it to, im running a 1600x900 Resolution monitor and its not performing up to par getting quite laggy at point etc.. My friend has an older GPU than me The XFX HD6770 and an old AMD Dual core and hes getting better fps than me, both running the same resolution and same graphics settings, could the problem be something to do with my 2500K or my RAM, or could it even be undervolting? i would expect as i have adequate (i would think)

Any help would be useful!

Set the card back to stock i.e. Not 'Gaming Mode' and check. I suspect 'Gaming Mode' has changed something to make your FPS unstable.

I changed it back and there is a slight boost in fps (thanks)

But it just seems like the graphics card isnt 'trying' if you know what i mean?

One second, ill run it through the Crysis 2 Benchmark, and yeah i always have Vsync off i mean who wants locked fps?

Perhaps return it to the retailer? Try runnign it through a few benchmarks and compare to othger online results to see if it realy is the card not the software.

at your res the 7970 should be overkilling your games im talking 80 to 100fps easy on crysis 2 its possible its not stretching its legs maybe get a bigger monitor? you can get a 1080p 24" monitor for under £120 uk these days.

yeah thats exactly what im thinking im planning on getting a new monitor soon anyway, what size is a good size would you think? im on a 19.5" 1600x900 at the moment.

Well i ran my computer through 3Dmark Vantage on the extreme setting and i got my self a score of X21308 and the GPU was 21438 and the CPU was 19107, Is that a good score?

Oh i also ran the Adrenaline Crysis 2 Benchmark with the Direct 11 pack and the Hirestexture pack and the fps average was 81.4

OK, on my 580 at 1920 x 1080 My average FPS with DirectX 11 and the High Res Texture pack is ~56 fps, so your score seems OK. I'll install Crysis 2 on my Force 3 when I can and run the Adrenaline benchmark at 1600 x 900 and report back. If my average is higher your card is under-performing, but as mentioned previously it may be due to the resolution.

okay thanks for all your help! the actual game im trying to play is the Feed the beast mod pack on minecraft but it just doesnt like me for some reason...

Hi Jacko,

Here are my results from the benchmark at 1600 x 900 (Max settings):

Average is 74, so I think your results are fine. My 580 isn't stock, which is why the results are higher than what standard 580's get.

You lock your frame rate to the hertz of the monitor you are using to stop screen tearing.

These are my results on the crysis 2 benchmark, they seem normal i wonder why minecraft doesnt run as well as crysis 2 does?

Your fps are fine. I suspect it's something else causing the issue with minecraft. Try a re-install if you haven't already or clean graphics drivers.
