Ohh, did not know that actually... is that a bad thing?
As far as i know i don't think its a bad thing, The only reason why i know this is cause Logan from Tek Syndicate said it in their CES 2015 videos

The Sapphire Vapor-X uses a custom PCB as it was designed for aircooling. You can buy waterblocks for it now though. The Tri-X uses a reference PCB.
I'd get it for that much more money. Also check out XFX cards.. they might be cheaper and still look sexy!

So does this mean I can watercool my 290X Vapor-X (Blue) later on if I so choose to?...
Will soon put up a build log of my system, just waiting for a reply from Feronix amongst other things![]()
Yeah, if the block is still available when you go to buy it as I believe its only made by one company.
Okay, cool. You don't happen to know what the company is called?...
Btw, you guys... how big of a difference in raw horse power and fps is there between the ASUS 970 Strix and Sapphire R9 290X Vapor-X?...

Depends on game and drivers used.
So I've now installed my Sapphire R9 290X Vapor-X... and I haven't really installed the drivers for it, as I had the drivers for my old 6950.
And when I had downloaded the drivers for the 290X, it actually had all the stuff "working" for it... I went into BF3 for a quick run and had between 130-190 FPS on High in 1080p.
IF I don't actually install the "real" drivers for the 290X, what will then happen?... will I loose an massive amount of FPS?...
Thanks
You should have uninstalled the drivers before replacing the 6950. Then installed the 290x and install the latest drivers to enable all its features/performance.
Well considering you have 2 different cards and you still hear the sound. I suspect it is something else.
Like what?... as I have tested them both with the HX750i and my older Silver Power 850W.
Could be capacitor/pcb on the motherboard. Anything that allows current to run through it can cause the noise.
I don't think so... as when I started up Battlefield 3, it got worse. Turned on Vertical Sync in BF and it lowered, turned it back off, got worse again. Shutted game down and most of the sound disappeared, although some noise left.
So guessing it's the graphics card.
If it sounds exactly the same as before it's probably the board.
I haven't heard any coil whine mass problems for the 290/290x's compared to the 970.
