Graphics card advice help? (urgent)

The Sapphire Vapor-X uses a custom PCB as it was designed for aircooling. You can buy waterblocks for it now though. The Tri-X uses a reference PCB.

I'd get it for that much more money. Also check out XFX cards.. they might be cheaper and still look sexy!

Thanks NeverBackDown bro :)... successfully traded the 970 Strix for R9 290X Vapor-X, as the 970 had coil whine (both the 970's I recieved had it).

So just gotta install the bad girl and see if she boots and if she has coil whine or any other issue.

So does this mean I can watercool my 290X Vapor-X (Blue) later on if I so choose to?...

Will soon put up a build log of my system, just waiting for a reply from Feronix amongst other things :)

Yeah, if the block is still available when you go to buy it as I believe its only made by one company.

Okay, cool. You don't happen to know what the company is called?...

Btw, you guys... how big of a difference in raw horse power and fps is there between the ASUS 970 Strix and Sapphire R9 290X Vapor-X?...

The difference is only by 10% so not that noticable. But with the amd you get "real 4GB" :p

EKWB makes the blocks for the vapor-x
The vapor x is one beast of a card, the aircooler is one of the best out there and there's dedicated heatsinks for the vrms.

So I've now installed my Sapphire R9 290X Vapor-X... and I haven't really installed the drivers for it, as I had the drivers for my old 6950.

And when I had downloaded the drivers for the 290X, it actually had all the stuff "working" for it... I went into BF3 for a quick run and had between 130-190 FPS on High in 1080p.

IF I don't actually install the "real" drivers for the 290X, what will then happen?... will I loose an massive amount of FPS?...

Thanks

You should have uninstalled the drivers before replacing the 6950. Then installed the 290x and install the latest drivers to enable all its features/performance.

Ohhh shit... so much for have lost all my knowledge about this, damn I hate my memory losses :(... will do that then, cheers! :)

Right... so now I've done some testing as and turns out I've gotten REAL anal about coil whine. I thought it was the new HX750i that was whining, but turns out it wasn't.
I never noticed my old 6950 to have it, but it does. And the new R9 290X also has it... so now I'm wondering if I should return it for a new one or to trade it in for the £159 more expensive GTX 980, from EVGA?...

How has that one done guys?, for you that has it... I got 2 ASUS 970 Strix's before this one and they both had quite horrible coil whine.
Is the 980's also affected or not as much as the 970's?... also, is the 290X as high end as the 970?, as I got less fps in Bf3 on 1080p with high settings than the 970.

Thanks

EDIT: What do you guys think of this one, if I would to trade it in?: http://www.webhallen.com/se-sv/dato...gtx_780_strix_oc_6gb__pick_your_path#overview

http://www.webhallen.com/se-sv/dato...ck_your_path&atcl=external:ref#specifications

What is the real difference between the 780 and 780Ti?... as the 780Ti is quite a lot more expensive.

Could be capacitor/pcb on the motherboard. Anything that allows current to run through it can cause the noise.

I don't think so... as when I started up Battlefield 3, it got worse. Turned on Vertical Sync in BF and it lowered, turned it back off, got worse again. Shutted game down and most of the sound disappeared, although some noise left.

So guessing it's the graphics card.

That doesn't mean a motherboard could be doing it? Motherboard's load rises and falls just like a GPU does. If it sounds exactly the same as before it's probably the board.

I haven't heard any coil whine mass problems for the 290/290x's compared to the 970.

Exactly the same as before, when?...

That is true though, I haven't heard any coil whine on the 290X's lol.

if the coil whine noise is the same as it was before the 290x then it wouldn't be the GPU. I know its probably hard to tell but some are worse than others
