GPU overclocking causes folding to fail?

so as the title says, any time i overclock my 760, my gpu fails to start new work units....if i have a WU started, then it works just fine, but when that WU is finished, it will fail to receive a new one....anyone have ideas? the gpu is not crashing, it is stable and cold temps.....

Edit/ I can overclock the memory without issue, its just the core i can not OC.

That's a new one. I've only seen overclocking cause instability, but never cause work not to download. Are you upping volts at all when overclocking? Is it only when you overclock high or with even a small overclock?

Well i increase the voltage through afterburner, and when i just increase the voltage, it increases my core clock from 1215 up to 1228, and that is fine, no issue. but if i increase the core clock in AB even by 1 Mhz, it fails download.....now i know the card is stable at +100Mhz or so on the core, i have had it running over 1350 before.....but even 1 Mhz over stock and fail...again it doesnt crash, it just fails to download.

do you loose much in terms of PPD if you fold stock?

no idea....never really folded on this gpu overclocked lol.....thinking about it now, i ran into the same issue with my 560 Ti, i use to fold on it at 980 Mhz all the time no issue....but sometime after the 3XX series driver launch that all came to and end with the same issue :( both of my cards are factory overclocked, the 560ti is an MSI twin frozer @ 880, and my 760 is a gigabyte with a 1150 boost clock.

I think there was a driver issue after the 7xx series launch that exhibited a like or similar problem, card was fine until the display was off and the load on the card was removed, then nothing happened i.e. no new download. IIRC newer drivers fixed this problem.

You might search over at the Folding Forums, as I remember a thread on this issue.

mmm but i have my display set to never turn off......all power saving features are disabled on this pc

I had the same issue with my evga 670ftw. Factory overclocked and I could push it harder on games, but on folding, it was stock or nothing. Strange but true...

I guess all you can do is run it where it works, I think that is what all of us do to some extent with these QRB WUs both SMP and GPU
