GPU not displaying picture

Hey all,

Had a bit of a temperamental issue with my computer. Sometimes when I turn the computer on nothing comes up on the screen. I do however hear windows loading in through my speakers which leads me to believe that this is a graphics issue. I have a GTX 660TI. Its been doing this for nearly a year now I would have thought but recently has become more frequent. Normally a couple resets of the pc fixes it, I also clear cmos when I restart it. Don't know for sure if it helps. Last night when I tried starting my pc it didn't work and I tried multiple restarts for a good 20 minutes and still no display. When I get some time I plan to take the GPU out to see if it is that but in the mean time if anyone has any suggestions for what could be wrong and how to fix I would be very appreciative.

Thanks peeps!

does your dell monitor have a hdmi port? if so, try using that.

No it doesn't. It has display port but don't have any display port cables unfortunately! Only other connection is VGA which will have to run out of the DVI graphics card slot with an adapter so I doubt it would make a difference

DVI cable, it came with the Dell monitor. Why do you ask?

Just that it only happens to me on my DisplayPort connection, wondered if that was the same for you. I have yet to find a solution, though I'll admit I haven't tried that hard.

I've had my top panel drop out intermittently and it's been a detection issue that seems to be fixed with a wiggling or unplug/reseat the DVI cable. (I run two HDMI and two DVI) so my first guess would be the cable - especially if there's any kinks or hard bends or any weight pulling down on it.

I've had a similar problem to yours on start up a while back (like two years) and I'm pretty sure that was to do with the BIOS settings for init display. I'd been mucking around with Lucid Virtu MVP and had my integrated GPU switched on as well.

Long story short - check your cables and make sure your integrated GPU (if you have one) is switched to off.

Thanks for your responses guys. Cable looks fine and just checked that my integrated graphics are off. If the problem persists i'll try find another cable to use. PC is up and running at the moment though so lets see how it goes.

Thank you to everyone for your help

one more thing is to see how your monitor wakes from sleep. Or do you switch it off when you power down your pc?
