Good Old Alienware

Is true yes. Have you seen their prices?

I'm not going to get into a debate about this as there's nothing much to argue about really. Dell are the most powerful company that make computers on earth and there's a reason for that. They obviously do something right.

Funny, didn't see any one complaining when there was a competition on here to win one of their laptops.

wasn't here back then and i probably wouldn't have entered it. the only competition i have entered yet was the christmas compo. + complaining about it usually just ends in trouble, so that's probably a reason why nobody really complained. also most people who enter the competition are one time users which just come to grab the prices just to never be seen again. suckers.
it's quite hard to believe that dell is the most powerful PC company on earth because they don't sell their stuff in most stores, but their business part is so huge. haven't ever really thought about this.

It was said about ten years ago that in ten years Dell would have pretty much destroyed the competition. A bit exaggerated but tbh? not far from the truth.

HP have been bought and sold a few times, Gateway are gone, Compaq are pretty much just some one keeping the name alive and so on. Dell definitely came through.

Sure, most of what they sell is to businesses. However you would be amazed at how many Dell PCs are in houses. Most of my family don't care for gaming or anything and have a Dell PC. They last and they're built very well with a good warranty. Can't ask for more tbh.

Buying Alienware, in hindsight was a bad idea. Dell bought Alienware at their peak and since then the demand for high end custom built gaming PCs has really died on its ass. Voodoo were bought out by HP, Falcon Northwest are just about chugging along and PC gaming is nowhere near as strong as it was.

TBH I'm not even sure how much longer Dell will even bother with the Alienware brand. I think like their uber XPS desktops they'll eventually wind it down to something pretty small.

I've actually had quite a few Dell Laptops in the past 9 years. Although they were not the cheap kind, but part of their "enterprise/professional" lineup.

Build quality has always been good to great on these, and all of them are still running like a charm, even my old Precision M60 from 2004. My dad once bought one of their consumer laptops, and the differences in quality were quite drastic, to be honest. Within two years, the laptop had become practically unusable due to many small things breaking down over time (a crack here, something not working right there, and so on).

I think their business lineup is probably a big reason why they're as successful as they are. Those machines (at least the couple I've had) really are pretty good. Since many people usually buy their consumer products, which are nothing to write home about in most cases, the company's reputation is what it is in certain circles though.

Another clever thing they've done is the customization of the laptops via their website. I'm not all that up to speed on the current laptop market (last one I bought was a Dell XT2 two years ago, nice little machine), but how many other companies offer customization like Dell does (not saying there aren't any, but back in the day that was not something you could have for most other brands)?

And they really know how to handle their supply chain, at least in my experiences. Those machines were always here quick!

But yeah, consumer products are significantly worse (at least as far as my experiences go) than their business models. I will probably never again buy a consumer laptop, regardless of brand/manufacturer.

Naturally, my experiences could be untypical of the average one and I've just been very lucky (I do know that I don't have low standards, I'm actually quite picky ;))
