Good Guide Writers Required.

Yeah that's what I think - but its on the list and MSI says that it is supported. I'm going to RMA the board and get another one methinks

Yeh. I'm in the process of RMA'ing my MSI K8T Neo FIS2R (Via KT800 Chipset, Socket 754).

It should be at MSI today. According to FedEx, its "On Delivery Truck For Delivery."

I'm going for the suppliers over here as the firsat stop. I'll give them the reason that the RAM is on the RAM compatibility list but won't work and they can't really argue with that. Then I'll have to get another one. Any suggestions on a good XP3200+ Barton Socket A chipset. Might go for an ASUS VIA one. :p

VIA?! Are you friggin Crazy/Dumb, no offense...but nforce 2's OWN. If you arent happy with yer MSI, i highly reccomend Giga-Byte.

Yeah I heard gigabyte were good. I'll see when I get the RAM back!

Lol - I know, I know but I HAD a Via and the memory worked fine on it! Maybe I can work out what settings there are I can change...though unlikely as I've tried them all! I will have a look later! :D

I've had three VIA Socket A Boards...

FIC (Compaq) KT133B w/Duron 700 Spitfire, then 1100Mhz Thunderbird

MSI KM2M Combo-L KT266 w/1100MHz Thunderbird, then Athlon XP 2000+ (Thoroughbread B)

SOYO KT600 Dragon Plus V1.0 KT600 w/Athlon XP 2000+ (Thoroughbread B)

The SOYO sucked the most, but had the best performance.

Now I have a Giga-Byte P4 board, (i865PE chipset) and i LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE it.

Never EVER EVER had a problem. This MSI K8T Neo FIS2R, which I'm RMA'ing has a Via KT800 chipset.

We'll se how this one goes, but id have to reccomend nForce or go Intel.

Cheers lads. I'll hopefully get this one RMA's and get one of them. Don't reckon I'll go with the mSI tho - mines caused me enough problems.

I just lost everything I typed

Hi there!

Okay, sadly I just wrote and lost an extremely extensively long reply to this topic as to why I should be allowed to write 'a platform independent overclocking sticky', 'a internal watercooling sticky', and a 'which parts to buy when building a computer sticky'. I do not have the energy to retype my argument as to why I should be allowed to write each of these stickies but I will say my perspective on the matter will help users gain a better understanding in each area... a better understanding above and beyond any of the stickies that are here so far.

I do not claim to know everything and I would not consider myself knowledgable. I believe those that design the hardware are the knowledgable ones and we, the end users, are mere peons. Some of the information that I will present to this forum comes from other users on other forums (users that know more than I). I do not think I will be able to acredit each user's input and therefore I would like to say that my overclocking guide is really a combination of personal knowledge coupled mainly with knowledge from those smarter than I. I will put this disclaimer in my sticky to clear myself of any plagerism and I will do my best to acredit those whose input I remember. I apologize for not being able to give credit to everyone where credit's due but I honestly don't remember where a majority of my knowledge came from all I plan on doing is giving my knowledge away as free as those who gave theirs to me did.

a

Posted the guide, "Another Perspective On Overclocking" in both the AMD and INTEL sections. I will revise them as time goes on adding platform independent information to each sticky but that should be ground zero for someone who's planning on overclocking.

muffin if u want me to do Ath XP ocing i will;

rite in bout 2 weeks ill be bak @ uni and will create some si-97 hsf installation guides (the soc 478 is near ready) some networking guides (wireless and wired), soldering, linux/POSIX os guides and mmm lemme think something 'Special' (if i can get the parts required ..
