Good Firewall

can anybody recommend me a good firewall?? I dont want it to be asking me for permission for things every time i move the mouse and i dont want zone alarm. i also wont be paying for it but that doesnt mean it has to be free

I use Computer Associates Trust EZ firewall. You can set the permissions manually and its really easy to use. I've never had any trouble with it and it keeps everything from my door. Using that + spybot S & D + Adaware and my PC has never crashed from Hackers (touch wood).

If you want the best software firewall then you'll be looking at zonealarm. However, this takes a while to learn all your applications so you'll get popups for a while.

I'd go with Windows XP firewall. I used it on a load of servers for about 6 months without a single problem.

Personally i use hardware tho

try sygate personal firewall i have that it is good it only pops up when a new program is detected and you have to remove the alert it gives you when there is an hacking or app hijacking going on

Yep, hardware firewall all the way...personally I use the Netgear FR114P router. Its easily configurable via a browser window and its default settings are as safe as churches. It can be found here http://www.netgear.com/products/details/FR114P.php. My router support VPN, SPI and NAT. Also if you have other machines you want to network and have access to the net, the latest version of ZA Pro isn't as friendly for sorting this if you don't know what you are doing.
