Good Broadband...

I am with UK Online and cant recommend them enough, get really low pings of 15ms to most UK servers and have never had any slow down since day one. Get my full speed 24/7.

once again NOT AVAILABLE IN MY AREA

what is it with bridlington, are we out in the wilderness or somthing? :(

It wasnt available in my area or due to be and then one day I checked and it was available. Try ringing them and asking if it may become available in the future because I know they are still expanding.

All I can say is I'm glad the OC3D servers don't have a FUP:

That's just one of the servers..

Lol, the one with the website or the other?

Ionicle, i think you should just cut down on the downloading...

I am with UKFSN (enta.net) and it's pretty cheap for what you get.

£19.99 for - 30gb peak, 300gb off-peak, adslmax & only a month contract. My pings are excellent aswell. Which is the main thing for me as I mainly use my connection for gaming :)

Also I'm pretty sure I read on adslguide that if you're in the uk and you go for adslmax you will never get 8mb throughput and rarely get synced at 8mb. I think someone said they lived next door to the exchange and sync'd at 8mb but the throughput was only 6.5mb.

I am on adslmax and sync is 3.6mb. On speedtest.net I get around 3000-3500kb/sec.

I think they also have unlimited packages, but I don't download much :)

I think the regulators should make them take out the "up to" in their service descriptions tbh.

Not just that, on one of their new adverts they say 'did you know that with most ISPs, the further away you are from the exchange, the slower your service..... with Virgin Broadband you get the same where ever you are'

There is no way they can possibly promise that, it is a blatant and outright lie. It's completely out of their hands.

I thought that was their cable service tho? I'd still imagine that distance has some bearing on speed, but probably nowhere near as much as ADSL.

It does take the quality of signal down in so far as the other guy standing with the polystyrene cup to his ear will hear u less the further away u are :p

Think they`d use optical stuff tho, digitally. ;)

I think the 8mb is including overheads, so as you say, you'll never reach that speed.

I'm on adslmax with idnet and i sync at the following;

Downstream: 8128 kbps

Upstream: 448 kbps

I'm about 1.2km away from the exchange. Downloads are between 800-900kbs

Enta dont allow 8meg any way they cap all there pipes at 7.2meg

On the 1st week of testing, higher sync's resulted in higher pings so capping it down is probably more of a good thing as the connection becomes more stable. Altho I thought the BT exchange decided the sync rates

True the DSLAM at the exchange decides but Enta limit there pipes so even if you sync at a full 8 meg you wont get more than 7.2meg. There pings aren't even that low when I moved to Be* from Enta my pings halved again

My pings on enta are excellent :) the routing is amazing.

ping to the first hop is 15ms to 18ms, where on idnet it was 30ms+ (on the same line) and the routing to servers is amazing. Especially routing to the NL, SurfNET is amazingly good.
