Ham is over and has just sent me some AVI files over msn. I go to watch one and i get 'windows has prevented you from opening this as it is a potential risk' the only option is 'ok' nothing else, now the files are gone, not in recieved files or anything

i like your thinking. think it might be best to just use netmeeting. plus the files are huge. any ideas on how to completely disable ALL windows security and interfearance?

Gotta have it zipped or rar'd first mate :)

Are you talking about the normal security in windows xp sp2 , if its that goto start > run > type "services.msc" without quotes.

Scroll down the list , find "Security Center" , right click > goto properties > Click Stop and in startup option choose disable if stopping it doesnt solve your issue , when you finish your transfer and watch the file undo above and restart the service. Hope this helps. If this is not related to your issue disregard it :)

That method may work but I think its more messenger the program itself handling the issue than windows. Definately worth a shot though.

I just have the sender zip it up and resend it, works like a charm :)

Well zipping it worked on one occation. But then not on the others.

Apparently the best cure was chosing to save it to a different folder that the default 'my received files'.
