Hi guys. Never really has bsod before - couple of time when i was lumbered with winME for a month

Anyway, since i have changed things around a bit i am getting a 7e error every hour or so (stop: 0x0000007e) There is no driver identified in the stop message so i cant track it to anything. As i suspected microsoft's bsod help section has been as useful as a chocolate fireguard. Thought it could be any of the following

- I have already removed a load of potentially 'iffy' sortware. I stuck some new memory in the other day, ocz gold 4400 on an ic7 - cant see there being a problem there. My device manager keeps reading a dvd drive and a cd-rw drive installed - i only have the cd-rw. Keep trying to remove the other but it keeps coming back. (got a new dvd burner arriving next week so that will hopefully be sorted). My NB cooler has packed in - as most appear to on the ic series - new one coming next week with the dvd-rw drive. Could the nb overheating be causing the errors? Dont really want to do a full re-install, i'm lazy! thanks

had a run through all, nout i'm afraid. running sp2, no problems installing it, running fine for 2 months after sp2 update.....

long shot time...

are you using the intel chipset utility? perhaps something funky going on with your ide controller?

re there any other devices on the same ide chain misbehaving? IS the drive set up properly in terms of master slave etc?
