I have run into a problem with my new build, I went about the usual way of testing on the box it came in, but it wont boot, all I'm getting is the cpu fan spins for a second then stops, then spins then stops, and it goes on and on. I have tried a speaker, and that seems to make like a low click sound as if it is trying to beep.

I've tried 1 stick of ram, in each slot, both sticks in each slot, and the same again with different sticks. I've checked and double checked all connections, and unplugged everything not needed. The CMOS has been re set, and the CPU has been re seated, and pins checked, and I've done all these steps with 3 different power supplies. But nowt, the same result.

I'm running a Intel G3528, with a Gigabyte Z87 D3H, with the stock cooler, and no GPU, just the basic board cpu, and cooler.

Any ideas guys ? From what I've tried I'm stuck, all I can think of is dead board, so RMA time, I've only just received it so no problem there.

Does the MB have the correct bios?

I assume you mean't to say the G3258, you need to update the bios. I messaged Gigabyte about the Z87X-UD3H as I'm planning on dropping a 4790K into it, and they said I will need the latest bios to support Haswell refresh cpu's. So I believe you will need to get a normal Haswell chip in order to update the bios.

Here is the supported CPU list for your Mobo you can check to see the bios you need which is F10.

Oh bugger. I suppose I could take my 4670k out of my main rig, and update the bios from there. Then again an RMA might be the best option, as I would have to drain the loop in order to get to the cpu, bloody solid tubing. Cheers guys.

You /could/ buy the cheapest first-gen Haswell chip that you can find like a (used) Celeron or something that'd work too and probably be as expensive as RMAing the board.

Thanks for the help guys, I pulled out my 4670k and threw it into the giga board, went through the QFlash, bios update, to the F10, and problem solved. So first thing in the AM, get it all built into the deadsilence, and time to play.

Yep all is hunky dory, I didn't use QFlash, as mentioned above, I actually used Gigabytes @Bios, and it worked flawlessly.

No mate, I had to RMA the board, and wait for the new one to arrive, it came earlier today, the Asus Gryphon Armor Edition, I've gone through all testing on the board and GPU, all is fine I'm just in the process of building the build.

It's going to be a few days yet, I've got a bit to do mod wise, like an acrylic light rim between the board and tray, I've also got to plumb the hardline in.

On top of that my living room is empty, except for a sofa, and my laptop, I've got a rather large aquarium, and cabinet coming on a pallet tomorrow, and I want to get it placed before the desk goes back in, thank god for Ikea modular...
