Gigabyte X79 UD3 is ignoring my Bios Overclock settings

Hey guys, I hope you can help.

I've been banging my head against this X79 UD3 mobo that just won't play ball.

I've set the multiplier to anything other than the default 35 but it ignores it when I reboot, it keeps defaulting at 35. Even if I push it up to x36 the turbo won't rise. When I go back into the BIOS, I can see the setting I've applied is still there but it doesn't work. Why is the BIOS ignoring my overclock settings?

I've updated the BIOS to F8, I've removed practically everything attached to the mobo, started from scratch several times but it's not happening.

I am so close to ditching this mobo and getting something else, but I want to try all avenues before I do that.

Many thanks.

Terry.

Hi Terry.

Have the X79-UD3 myself and the 3930k oc to 4.9ghz easily.

Think you could use these settings.

When I go into a cold boot, the settings don't stick. It reports "Boot failure". But it does sometimes work. It's inconsistent which is the annoying thing. I thought I had sussed it but no. Really annoyed.

This is what i use for the 4.9ghz oc.Cpu`s all clock different at various volts.Yours may need more volts or only hit 4.8ghz or lower.Mine does 4.5ghz @ 1.31v.

Hope itll help you out.To stabilize oc set LLC(vcore loadline calibration) to extreme.

No luck. As soon as I do a cold boot the Bios crashes and I'm forced to use the optimized defaults. I reckon I got a bad egg so I'm ordering another one, this time from Aria and hope it works. Thanks for your help mate, I'll let you know how I get on.

I ordered another Gigabyte X79 UD3 and it arrived today. I put it straight into the system and the same thing happens (grrr). I've changed the ram, the graphics card, I've unplugged all the hard drives but it won't let me overclock by even 1GHZ. In a last ditch attempt I've ordered an Asus P9X79 Pro. If this doesn't work then I know for sure it's the CPU which will really be annoying!!
