GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H or ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE?

New rig to be built very soon and i'm stuck between these two motherboards. The price difference really isn't that much of an issue for me, although it does make me wonder if the Asus has something the Gigabyte doesn't.

I thought that the more power phases the more better (for OCing, at least), which is why the Deluxe was my first choice.

So...what do you guys think?

dont know how Asus support is i the UK but here in the USA it down right sucks balz So IMHO Gigabyte all the way. Plus the Z77UD5 is to be Giga;s top end board from what i have read. Not to mentio I love my Z68UD4

So, this whole 'more powerphases the more better' thing. Is there a cut off point where so many powerphases make little difference, or?

yes i'm with you Josh on 'more powerphases the more better' for OC thing

but how far do you want to OC your CPU? more higher powerphases thing is for higher / extreme OC enthusiast user.. if you plan to OC your CPU range 4.0-4.7 GHz definitely more powerphases it's not that crucial.

I was hoping for anything between 4.7-5GHz, so i'm kind of glad that it shouldn't make too much of a difference.

Of late i've been hearing some good things about Asrock, where before I was reading mostly bad reviews. It seems as though I may need to broaden my choices!

its not better for oc'n persay (but it helps) but more for stability along the oc. keep your vcore at or under 1.4 for 24/7 use higher for benching is ok but 24/7 use 1.4 or less you havent said what cpu your using so from what i have seen and experienced 2500k 4.7ish to 5 is possible at or under 1.4 2600k with HT on the limits i have seen and done are 4.5 -4.6 without HT its almost the same as the 2500k I'm torn between the UD5 and the Asrock board myself.

Ah, my apologies. The CPU shall either be the 2600k or the 3770k. What I said before, the 4.7-5GHz bit, only relates to if I get the 2600k, as I don't think anyone's quite sure how IB truly reacts yet.

How about the asus maximus V gene. 8 pack was impressed when he benched it. He got over 5ghz on a 2600k @ 1.48v. I know you wouldn't run a 24/7 at that but it shows the capability of the board.

Z77 sabertooth is a high clocker too.

MSI GD55 or 65 are great too. Sieb has just got the 65 if you want to ask his opinion on it.

Ive had asus boards for the last 7 years and not had an issue in the uk.

Aren't you more likely to be limited by the silicon lottery @1.4 than the mobo above 4.7 anyway?

For expansion options in the future, I want to stay with an ATX form factor. The Gene was already a part of my shortlist, but i had to whittle it away.

There's just so much choice, I don't know what to go for!

The Sabertooth was another such board that I had considered, but I decided that the TUF Armour was a little too gimmicky. If, however, the board overclocks better than the two boards i've mentioned in the title it shall definitely be considered.

Cool. Yea it is a hard decision but I think in many ways it's splitting hairs. To us enthusiasts we probably couldn't tell the difference. One thing I noticed is that there is often a different number of 6gb/s sata connections on these boards and some only have 2 so you might want to check that out as well if you need them.

Also for reference you can OC a 3820 quite nicely to 4.5-4.8 ish. It's a slightly different technique but still quite easy. Someone did it in the forums here recently:

Only reason I go for Gigabyte is because they have excellent warranty in the UK, Gigabyte UK = Milton Keynes - RMA centre, takes 2-3 days to get a replacement and customer support is excellent, we even have our very own forum for people in the UK >> http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/

The Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe looks like a superb board with lots of features, Asus is let down here in the UK by they're poor RMA - maximum time by trading standards is deemed 28 days yet I have heared of people waiting upto 2 months for a replacement if anything goes wrong and having to get trading standards involved to force the retailers to refund or replace, a large company like Asus should have better support in this area.

The Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H will be well supported, especially with the free Antec 620 Kuhler promotion via around 4 or 5 UK retailers - so they have sold at least 150 motherboards already virtually.

You've given me that little extra push that i've been waiting for. I'll be ordering the entirety of my new rig on Monday, fit with the UD5.

At this point I would just see what software support they both offer. AI suite for ASUS is (for me) a total selling point. It is amazing software and works very well for fan control and temp monitoring.
