Gigabyte GA P31 ES3G, Yay or Nay?

Hey, im fairly new to overclocking and the world of PC hardware, so I am not sure about this board.

I needed a really cheap P31/35 board which could overclock my E1200. I found the Gigabyte GA-P31-ES3G at aria for £50.

My budget was £70, so I don't have much to spend on RAM. I found the 2gb OCZ Bargain RAM for £13 at ebuyer.

Can anyone tell me if these two items would be good enough to overclock my E1200? The motherboard is a good overclocking motherboard. But my mate says that it might not overclock unless you get good RAM.

Thanks,

Tj

Seems to be a solid mobo, good features for the money. Hard to comment on it directly as I dont have it :D

But I will give a nod to gigabyte though as a brand. They make solid mobo's in my humble opinion, well built, and feel it too. Though I guess we all have favorites.

Read this on their site you may want to be aware of:

Because of chipset limitations, do not populate both DIMM sockets of the same channel (e.g. DDRII1 and DDRII2), or populate 4 DIMM sockets with double-sided memory modules to prevent system's failure to start or incorrect detection of memory modules. Please refer to the user manual for the memory configurations table.

* Because of chipset limitations, when using FSB 1333 MHz CPU with populating all DIMM sockets, memory frequency will be reduced from the original, and system instability or incorrect detection of memory module may be occur.

Please refer "Memory Support List" for memory support information.

I don`t understand that quote ? Is it taken from a context ? Cos that seems silly.

It`s not a chipset limitation either cos other mobos with the same chipsets can do it easily. It`d have to be how they handle the chipset.

Taken directly from their site, maybe they have cut corners somewhere to achieve the price bracket, and hence hardware limitations have occoured?

its just saying it wont work under certain ram configurations, but you be fine with 2gb of ddr2. that board is kinda old but it is great, i had one and i managed to overclock my e2140 to 3.2Ghz with a arctic cooling freezer 7 pro hsf.
