Getting ready for a new build!

So in the new year (yes i know its still a way off!) i plan on building a new air cooled rig. Im slowly getting money together so wanted to see if i could put a list together. Some stuff i already have, some stuff I'll plan on getting in the next few months, some stuff i wont get till Jan next year!

A little about what i want to build. I want a prominently black setup, as black as i can get. Maybe with a hint of either red, blue, green or dark purple. I want to be able to upgrade this fairly easily over the next 4/5 years. Hopefully going onto water cooling. Over clocking doesn't really interest me at this present moment in time. Having a quiet stable rig does! I will use this for Gaming and General computer use. I don't really play high end games, im an eve online freak and plan on playing the new star wars mmo when it comes out. I am on a budget, But things that will last years IE case, psu and fans im willing to spend a bit more on!

Ok here goes!

Case - Haf X full tower?***

Fans - No idea!***

PSU - Corsair AX850***

GPU - HD 6870 (already owned)

Ram - Corsair XMS3 8gb (already owned)

SSD - Gonna Get in January

HD - No idea, has to be at least 1TB

Mobo - Gonna get in January

CPU - Gonna get in January

CPU cooler - NH-D14? but the fan colors put me off!

Im open to any suggestions and recommendations, nothing is set in stone!

*** = things id like to get in the next couple of months!

I would not get the HAF-X, it is a nice case but I really got sick of the look of it after about a month, also the dust filters are kind of a pain in the ass to clean. I would recommend the Raven RV02E, great case, great airflow, easy to clean dust filters.

For hard drives I recommend Western Digital: Black drives for storage, pretty fast and come in 2 tb sizes. The NH-D14 is your best choice for performance but there are other like the Thermalright Silver Arrow that performs pretty close to the same but doesn't look quite as bad as the NH-D14. For SSDs even in January I would say check out the corsair ones out at that time, I have seen the best performance from the corsair SSDs I own.

thanks for the reply! i know im in a minority on this forum when i say i really dont like the Raven RV02E case! Im sure its outstanding but for me i just dont like the looks!

Yeah I can definitely see how it could not be for everyone, took me a while to get used to as well. The HAF-X then is a great performing case, I am sure there are other good ones I just can't think of any specific ones atm. It is for sure big enough to comfortably hold everything you want to put in it and keep it cool. Also just because I got sick of the looks a bit it doesn't mean you will =P!
